Hi,
I've been playing with OpenWRT on an external USB drive that is plugged into my TP-Link 1043ND router. It works ok but the write speed of my current USB stick is slow so I want to get something quicker as the total load on the router is at 4.0 when doing SCP/SSH.

Looking ahead, there seems no reason to get a USB 2.0 stick as 3.0 prices are reasonable.
I understand that the performance will be slower due to the router not having a 3.0 hub, but will it be quicker than an equivalent 2.0 stick due to the performance of the I/O handler and flash memory etc?

Rob

I would have thought that USB3 in a USB2 hub will mean it runs at the slowest devices speed. i.e. USB2 speeds.
Certainly thats the case with USB2 into an original USB device.

Yes, I understand that you won't get more than USB2.0 provides regarding throughput. I'm wondering about the response time and small file read/write speed. Basically, is a USB3 stick 'nippier' than the equivalent USB2 stick when put in a USB 2.0 hub?

A USB3 device in a USB2 socket will run at maximum USB2 speeds.

It might only be a fraction faster than a USB2 device.
