My '07 golf is due a cam belt change. Does the pump need changing at the same time? Thought that more recent Golfs had pumps with metal impellers rather than the crappy plastic ones but not sure.
Also, should I pay a main dealer to do the job or a talented indy with a good rep?

yep I was told by my stealer that the latter golfs are fitted with the metal impeller blades, (MK4's had the plastic blades issue).
tbh, nothing stopping you replacing the pump at the same time as the cambelt.
Got a great local talented indy, so worth ringing round
