I'm employed, but have had to do either a full or short tax return for the last 10 years or so now.

How long do i have to keep these records for, the file is overflowing and some are ripe for the shredder.

If I remember rightly (and I hope I do!) you have to retain Corporation Tax records for 6 years from end of the company's accounting period.

I'd be very surprised if personal tax was anything other than six years as well - presumably from the end of the tax year.

the info you need is on the [url= http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/sa/record-keeping.htm ][b]HMRC Website[/b][/url] at the bottom of the page.

It looks like you only need to keep records for 22 months from the end of the relevant tax year to which they relate.
