Earlier this week I witnessed an amusing incident.
Bloke A cycling expertly one handed talking on fone.
Bloke B passing in other direction yells "get off your fone you S.Y.N.T ".
Bloke A ends call pronto chases after bloke B and gives him what for.
Bloke B realises he has bitten off more than he can chew and disappears sharpish.
Mucho funny as it was right outside my daughters school.
So is it illegal to cycle and talk?
ive done it, might think twice if it was through central london or sumthin though. now idea if its illegal and frankly i dont really care what the statues say on the matter.
Very good, if Boris is to be believed then you have answered my question. Thanks
CYCLING WHILE TALKING ON A MOBILE PHONE
A bicycle is a vehicle but according to the Road Vehicles (Construction and Use) Regulations 1986, amended 2003, it is only illegal to drive a motor vehicle while using a mobile phone. There is nothing about bicycles in the phrasing so, in effect, cyclists are exempt from this extremely sensible law. That doesn't mean cycling while phoning or texting is not dangerous and you could be pulled over for a related, not-paying-due-care-and-attention offence.

that said, would any law differentiate between road and off-road cycling
i often answer my phone on the way to a meet, especially if its me thats running late.
