I've just bought a Satmap Active 10 -

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Satmap-Active-10-Plus-Outdoor/dp/B0049A2S70/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top

And was wondering if I have to use Satmap maps on it? Are OS maps formatted in a standard way or does each manufacturer use its own system to translate and store OS maps?

Very interested in getting OS Explorer maps for Wales but I think they're £200 via Satmap...eek!!

Cheers
James

yes you have to use Satmap's maps, Ordnance survey rules unfortunately.

there is no way around this although I have used the Satmap for riding with and the base map that comes on it included is actually detailed enough for most riding. It will still give you your position in an 8fig GR which you can use with a paper map to determine your position.
