Just near the steamer landing as well so you can have a walk/drink to/at keswick and get the steamer back.
We stayed at The Skiddaw Hotel in the middle of Keswick. T'was nice. Shops, pubs and restaurants within walking distance.
Ladore is very nice. If you stay its well worth paying the extra for a lake view room.
Borrowdale Gates is also excellent. Both a bit out of town, but as Jekkyl says you can catch the boat into Keswick and back.
Lizzick Hall? Not stayed there but lovely location and good food.
