Morning all, I'm off on a 3 week roadtrip around the South of France and northern Italy on August this year with 6 friends. We will be in a van and have agreed that we will all bring 1 home made CD with us, like the mix tapes we (I?) used to make in the 80's.
So STW, please give me some ideas on what to put on it. My tastes are quite broad but I don't want anything to "extreme", the rules are 20 songs max and try to mix it up a bit so don’t fill an entire CD with late 70 prog rock for example.
Has to be posted:

that is your theme right there.
I once went on a road trip to the north with a mate who made a cheese mix. first two tracks everyone was moaning by track 3 we were singing along at the top of our voices.
ker-wality.
rolling stones - gimme shelter
jimi hendrix - voodoo chile
the blue oyster cult - don't fear the reaper
bob dylan - like a rolling stone
Emmerson, lake and palmer - fanfare for the common man
jane's addiction - jane says
smashing pumpkins - rhinocerous
steve miller band - fly like an eagle
talking heads - once in a lifetime
the trashmen - surfin bird
the velvet underground - what goes on
woody guthrie - this land is your land
zion train - hailing up the selector
the congoes - fisherman
actually the whole of the Miami Vice (the remake movie) soundtrack is pretty good
I would go for mostly breakcore stuff with a healthy dollop of gypsy techno..
or a fat 72 minutes of solid Funk slabs
Staying out for the summer - Dodgy. Definitely a summer road trip song.
D'you think I watch too many movies?
The Gaslight Anthem - Drive/We came to dance/Angry Johnny and the Radio
The Naked and Famous - Young Blood
Frightened Rabbit - The Hole/The Twist
MGMT - Kids/Electric Feel
House of Pain - Jump Around
The Killers - When we were
Audioslave - Show me how to live
Feeder - Insomnia/Pushing the senses/Just a Day
Bruce Springsteen - Radio Nowhere
Gomez - Whippin Picadilly
Mmm. struggling with posting the YouTube Links for some reason.
Here are my suggestions:

Henley - Boys of Summer
[url=
Prophets - Last Summer
Turn the stereo waaaaaaaaay up for these.
*mental note - never roadtrip with beamers*
Some great ideas so far, keep them coming!
Don Henley, Boys of summer for sure. Also Sweet Home Alabama.
Can you update us with whose suggestions make the final edit?
Shuggie Otis - Strawberry Letter 22. Great summer song.
molgrips, I certaily can. I'm a bit of a 90's indie fan at heart so Gomez, Dodgy and Stone Roses are a given. Some Hendrix and some Velvet Underground will make it as well I suspect. MGMT is interesting as is some Zepplin and AC-DC.
I'm also thinking some house might go down well, perhaps some D&B as well.
All stereos should by law be fitted which turns the volume up to maximum levels when that AC/DC song comes on.
Or anything else by the cat empire.

WTF! What kind of a road trip would you be on listening to the Stone Roses? Or is the clue in the trip. (Although you have redeemed yourself with SUM 41. 😉 )
2 - 4 - 6 - 8 motorway by The Tom Robisnon band has to be on any road trip play list.
I remember driving down to Cham many years ago .....blah.....blah...... drifts off into a misty past.....blah
Also Bucket Seat by Cake is good for driving..
Sweet Home Alabama
Stone roses is ok when mixed in with other stuff.
My Sister in Law poured scorn on me for having a Sum41 album, apparently they are only for teenyboppers in the US. I had no idea 🙂
