About to go book shopping for various Christmas presents and looking for one or two ideas - STW book threads are always good, so what you read this year and what was good?

I've read some great stuff this year - nowhere near as prolific a reader as I used to be, but these were what I can remember:

Humboldt's Gift - Saul Bellow (took ages, but really enjoyed)
The F*** Up - Arthur Nersessian
On Bullfighting - AL Kennedy
Freedom - Jonathan Franzen (not as good as the sublime The Corrections IMO, but was kind of tarnished for me by Mrs Tyred loving it and incessantly urging me to read it and constantly asking me how I was finding it whenever she saw me with it. You'd be forgiven for thinking she'd written it)
Our Fathers - Andrew O'Hagan
The Grapes of Wrath - John Steinbeck (bang! Straight into the top 3 of all time!)
Johnny Got His Gun - Dalton Trumbo

Currently about halfway through Kieron Smith, Boy by James Kelman.

What you got??

Read of the year for me...

"The Passage" by Justin Cronin.

Simply brilliant, cant wait to read the follow up.

Read a pile of cycling books, but the best:-

"Back Door to Bejing ("Why dont you fly")" by Chris Smith
"Thunder & Sunshine" by Alastair Humphreys
"Moods of Future Joys" by Alastair Humphreys
"The man who cycled the Americas" by Mark Beaumont

100% recomend all of them, but the Alastair Humphries ones were just superb.
