Hi all,

Stupid shower problem here. Basically the shower doesn't draw enough hot water to cause the boiler to kick in. Turning the cold water tap on usually helps to starve cold water from the shower and usually gets the hot water flowing.

I thought adjusting the mixer valve on the shower to give more preference to the hot water would help, but I can't see how to adjust it:

I've tried turning the copper thing in the middle anti-clockwise but it only turned about 5 degrees and has made bugger all difference.

Are there any other options?

I'm no expert, but this looks like it may help

do your taps work ok when turned on low?

is it a plain mixer or thermostatic?

Well, when we turn the hot taps on the flow is good for a second or two then drops, so we turn them up some more, then they drop again, finally after turning the taps on relatively high, hot water flows but at a normal rate.

when you say flow, do you mean volume of water or temperature?

if volume, it's probably worn washers expanding as they get hot. if temperature, it could be the diverter valve in the boiler.

however if the temperature issue is just the shower, I suspect the fault is a tired thermostatic cartridge
