We're off to Liverpool for a couple of days this weekend (2 adults, 3 boys 10, 9 and 5).  I've been to Liverpool the odd time but not for a long time.  Looking for suggestions of stuff not to miss please - no problem paying for stuff, but if there's free stuff then so much the better 🙂

Was thinking we'll head to Crosby for a couple of hours then maybe the war musuem afterwards.  Staying in Albert Dock, would prefer to ditch the car as soon as possible!

The Museum of Liverpool is OK to kill a few hours - you realise just how big the docks used to be. Cavern Club worth a visit. Fair few other museums near the docks as well. The town centre is OK for a wander around.

Another place is worth seeing and walking around on Crosby beach. Head back to Liverpool afterwards, not much else touristy in Crosby.
The beach and sand dunes further up the coast are glorious but that's a separate visit, really, if you only have a weekend in Liverpool.

The World Museum is great for the age of kids you've got, especially the hands-on area where they can get to touch loads of fossils and skulls etc.

There is a rather brilliant Keith Haring exhibition still on at the Tate.
If you go to Anfield ( recommended) you HAVE to go over the road to Homebaked , a community cafe.
The pies are lush. Rafa pie ( chicken and chorizo , obvs) or Scouse.
🙂

Depends what you want but I wouldn't bother with the cavern area - it's pretty dirty and rough tbh. Highly recommend the georgian quarter - go up the anglican cathederal tower, along to where Falkner St meets hope street , nice cafes, Philharmonic Pub if you want a pint (check out the loos) then along to the Catholic catherderal to look at that and the university buildings before going back down to central liverpool.

Grab the ferry to and/or from Wirral and then a train or bus to West Kirby, to walk over to Hilbre Island.

It's so long since I lived in Wirral I've forgotten all but the obvious Liverpool tourist attractions.

Ferry, Mersey Tunnels tour is good and close by. The Cavern Club was knocked down and rebuilt over the road so no. Head up Bold Street for eats lots of choice. Hire city bikes and ride through Albert Dock and up the river nice traffic free route. Best view of Liverpool is from The Wirral.
