so it's chistmas and time for a lovely fire. except mines (one of those multifuel jobs) isn't working.

had the chimney swept, done the opening the windows thing, can't see anything obvious wrong with the fire itself. currently managing to fob off my oh with the 'it's probably the cold' excuse which she's currently buying.

anything i'm missing or am i waiting to shout at someone in the new year?

Might be a cold flue - try some dry kindling and the old sheet of newspaper held over the front (NOT HSE APPROVED!) and see what happens?

Try opening the door about 1 inch and the fire should start to roar.
Also check the seals on the glass,they have got to be air tight.

if the wind's from the north east, all the chimneys up our street are the same - they don't draw. It's not something like that?

How long did you wait ?
Mine takes at least half an hour before it starts to draw properly. Once the cast iron and the chimney have warmed up a bit, they will naturally draw the air in and up.
