We have a metal (pedestrian) side gate. The hinges are slightly offset so it closes itself, which is handy, but it closes with a right !CLANG! when it hits the wooden stopper. What I'd like* is something like those little soft-close dampers you get inside kitchen cabinets that stops the doors banging, but beefed up for outdoor gate use.
Any ideas?
*of course, what I will probably end up with is an old inner tube ziptied around the stopper
came here to say inner + zip tie
Near me there's a metal gate on a footpath - the guy in the adjacent house is into his Landrovers and has installed a small gas strut (think it's the one that can be retrofitted to Defender rear doors) and bracket that dampens the closing action nicely. He's also rivetted a thick rubber pad to dampen the final closing action.
As a former Defender owner and tinkerer it always makes me smile when I walk that route. He has a mint condition Range Rover classic as well.
have a google on anti scratch rubber pads
or stick on neoprene pads
we got something like that for using on pots etc that we put onto a porcelain patio,
or as I’ve seen locally, pipe lagging, inside an inner tube which is then zip ……….
An old tyre will be tougher than an inner tube
Rubber bumper, as often seen on railway pedestrian crossing gates.
Shoot the next ****er who doesn't shut it gently.
Remove the gate completely? Is it actually serving a purpose? Unless you can (and do) lock it, it's just something that's in the way.

There's an old railway trail near me that has a couple of gates like that which are next to a house.
However when the house was sold, the new owner lost no time in removing the gates due to the constant noise of the locks and the bang of the wooden gates.
Tennis ball slices.
As a kid we had a metal gate - if I slammed it shut in *just* the right way, the ‘twaaaaanggg’ sounded just like the Six Million Dollar Man when he did Six Million Dollar Man stuff. We used to slam it and then pretend we were Lee Majors. 😹

I was going to suggest a piece cut out of an old tyre, bike or car, and zip-tied in place.
Bit of mastic tape on the wood could be quicker and neater than inner tube/tyre, especially if you already have a roll in stock.

The bit cut out of the tyre I can understand, but wouldn't a bit from a bike or car just make the clanging worse? 🤔
When was the last time you changed the bearings on the frame? Chain too long? Spring in the rear derailure gone a bit too soft / needs replaced?
I'm sure with a little bit of tinkering you'll get your Orange 5 back to being stealth gate like in no time at all.

Gave me a little LOL 😀
I was suffering a noisy Orange last night, and I think I've pinned it on the finned brake pads rattling. Actually gonna get the mastic tape out to pad them a bit this eve.
Bit of hose pipe. Cable ties. Boom. Sorted!
