.. for video transcoding, but keeping the cost to a minimum.
I have purchased ripper software which uses CUDA, so an nVidia card is a must I think. Perhaps more important than a beefy CPU?
What version of CUDA does the software require? This will dictate what graphics card you need...

grips, I probably have a Geoforce 250 GTS nVidia to move on in a day or two. 1Gb mem DDR3.
Its a PCIe x16, with on board fan.
I want a smaller form factor passive heat sink one thats on it's way in the post, so this is surplus to requirements.
s/h ebay prices seem to be £20-40, so yours for STW discount price of £20 posted if you like?
(conditional on getting my new one to work! 😉 )
EDIT - it features on xiphons list but not high up.
Stop the press. Just read about Quick Sync.. apparently much faster than CUDA.
Got a trial of ArcSoft media converter to try out on this work PC... Work PC is high spec but I feel bad about installing dvd copy protection breaking stuff on it.
Stoner - might be nice.. will consider my options 🙂 This is mainly academic atm unless it turns out to be quite cheap. I'd take the card off you straight away but my ageing desktop PC is one of the last ever to have an AGP slot 🙁
Well, on this quad core i7 2720QM laptop with nVidia Quadro 1000M it takes about 5m10s to rip a 29 min TV programme from DVD with Quick Sync, and about 4m30s with CUDA.
CUDA uses more CPU though - about 50% vs 30% for Quick Sync.
