I suspect i know the answers, first is the volume of phone spam going up?
Is there anything that can be done to actually block calls?

I've seen a marked increase in spam calls to my mobile during the past 6 months of so. Nearly always claiming to be recruitment related. Also SMS and WhatsApp messages. I just block them and, so far, the volume hasn't been high enough to be anything other than slightly irritating.

I've had a lot of WhatsApp spam calls recently, automated messages telling me that they have a job for me and to add them to my WhatsApp. The number of actual calls I get seems to have reduced recently, although I do still get the occasional one, but most of them use AI type voice response systems so I can't have fun winding them up like I used to.

Have you reported an accident to your insurers recently? The spam calls from ambulance chasers are insane!

I ignore all calls of numbers i dont recognize.

The landline mainly. Started off I would answer, then discover its a scam and hang up

Went from hanging up to being abusive down the line but rather than stop, incoming calls increased to near 10/day.

Then i stopped answering the phone, and allowing it to go to the automated answering machine.Within a few weeks calls had dropped to maybe 5 a week, and a little later stopped completely.

If you answer it they then know its a live line and will spam it more, but as i found, if you ignore it they seemingly class that as a no response or dead line and stop phoning.

If you block it,it just blocks that number, and the spammers have unlimited numbers to change to, so it doesnt solve the problem, only delay it

Now I have a full fibre landline, anything incoming says ‘nuisance?’ on the handset, so I just let calls go to the answer phone, 99.9% are spam calls, and just hang up, but I do get the occasional family call, so if I’m in I can intercept it, or phone back later.

I was getting two or three spammers a day for a few weeks, but the number has dropped off dramatically recently.

I do also get the occasional flurry of unknowns on my mobile, but they get shunted into the answering service and I’m often not even aware I’ve had a call, until I check recent calls.

Definitely gone up for me, they're silenced by default but I still get a notification...and sometimes a voicemail which gets instantly deleted.

Yup,the rate has gone up for me.

Most gets tagged as spam, but it was getting annoying if I was riding ,then stopped to check who was calling

I now have most of the family and friends numbers on a set ringtone, so anything else gets ignored till later.

There's spammer's and there's Laithwaite's.

These days I let everything go to answerphone, unless I'm 100% confident or expecting a call

Pretty sure spamming has gone up, it seems to go in cycles

Recent increase for me.
Google blocks a lot for me but any calls from a number not in my contacts gets sent to the Google call screening service on my phone - that gets rid of the rest

If it's a real person they'll leave a message or call back

Getting shot of the landline is one of the best things I ever did.  Unless you're in an area with poor mobile signal and no Wi-Fi calling functionality I see little reason to have one.

I'm on TPS, and never answer the phone, it's always on silent. If it is genuine they'll leave a message and I'll ring back. just annoying to get the spam calls.

TPS won't affect many of the spam callers - they're generally calling from outside the UK and don't bother with TPS or other privacy legislation. Block and ignore is the only tactic there.

Law abiding organisations will check TPS but it only really affects unsolicited calls which are much less common since GDPR anyway, as the number of organisations supplying lists of phone data is way lower than it was 10 years ago, and many DPOs are reluctant to allow arguments for their use. TPS won't be effective at stopping calls from companies you have a relationship with so withdrawal of phone consent is needed there.
