I know it'll be shit either side but does anyone know of any bad roadworks etc that'll help me choose ?
(setting off about 9am)
A34-M40-M42-M6 (with or without tollroad)
vs
M3-M25-M1-A1-A66
Ta !
there's a long roadworks on the M6 reducing traffic to 50 for about 4 junctions at about 11 northwards. Even with that I'd still go the M6 route, the A66 is only dual in some places as I recall. Plus Cannock Chase is only about 20 mins from the Junc11 M6. leave 40 mins for the dog or 1.5hrs or so for the monkey.
Just done Poole to Greenock. Worst bit was the M42.
I do Poole to Southport 3-4 times a year. M6 toll every time.
Cannock not an option; bike not coming out 'til we get up there and even then only one day 🙁
I do like the A66, though not driven it on a BH weekend (I'd hope everyone would've already been long gone by the time we hit it though)
I did Sheffield to M42 stretch of M1 couple of weeks back and there was a lot of 50mph limit road works. I'd go M6.
At @ 9am departure it will be nasty .if you can go at 7 it'll make a big difference.
I average 5hours to home(near keswick), from north London .
Always use the M6 ,unless a roadblock is ahead.
Thanks
I'm thinking Cirencester->M5->M6 now 😯
you're right - that's a shit idea. M40, M6 it is
M40 is normally great. Use the toll road it's more than worth it. Thelwell Viaduct often a pain. Have a safe trip.
Are you cutting across the A404 to get on M40. Is was caught in a 30min hold up on that stretch over the Thames two weeks ago.
Do yourself a favour and leave an hour earlier. Try and get on the A34 by 8am, cruise for an hour to the M40 then rush hours nearly over and you should be ok. M6 toll every time. Average speed cameras for 8 miles on the M6 after the toll Rd, home & dry after that.
