An advert just played a song, and it's a song I remember as it was on a Now album.
I don't think I ever even knew it was from a film!
No clue how to link videos, but Carly Simon, You're so Vain, from How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days
Trying to think of big, bombastic, soundtrack songs and a few came to mind.
What a feeling - Flashdance. A Moroder song.
Danger zone / Footloose - Kenny Loggins. Top Gun / Footloose.
But the one to eclipse the film would be Stayin' Alive - Bee Gees. The film was utter cobblers.
Starship. Nothing’s gonna stop us now.
Spice Up Your Life, by The Spice Girls, from the film Spice World, also featured on the album Spice World.
hmmm, can't embed tonight. Anyway, Phil Collins - Against all odds
Absolute beginners is the first one that pops in my head
Sh_te forgettable film
Genuinely great Bowie song. Arguably one of the best love songs of the eighties IMO
The breakfast club.. don't you forget about me - Simple Minds
The Proclaimers - I'm gonna be
Was on the soundtrack of Benny & Joon (a film I can't even remember watching) which led to their international fame, and becoming a wedding DJ staple.
The Wall - Pink Floyd
Sylvian Sakamoto Forbidden Colours
Theme to Merry Christmas Mr Lawrence which wasn't a bad film but the theme has endured much more.
Flash Gordon
Paint your wagon.
Not a movie. But a TV show never had a better opening tune....
Entire Suckerpunch soundtrack. Pretty music videos for an otherwise turd of a movie.
The breakfast club.. don’t you forget about me – Simple Minds
Great song but, great movie too. It's a classic.
Any song associated with Forrest Gump, or any other Tom Hanks movie, can't help but be better than the movie. Same goes for Good Morning Viet Nam, and Robin Williams. Utter shite.
So many from older movies - White Christmas, Baby It's Cold Outside, pretty much every decent early Elvis song...
Not a movie. But a TV show never had a better opening tune….
Back in the day when I first moved out of home I had a budget to have only 4 cans of cheap lager - mostly hoffmeister on sale - once a week. This used to be on Friday nights, and became my regular sofa/beer moment.
I don’t like the Stones per se, but I really like Paint it Black.
I’d say Bon Jovi’s ‘Blaze of Glory’ from Young Guns 2.
The theme to 'The Professionals', total funk classic - wah, wah, wah.
~27 years on, I can barely remember the film, but a great track from Annie...
Highlander soundtrack. Classic Queen, dreadful film.
Any song associated with Forrest Gump, or any other Tom Hanks movie, can’t help but be better than the movie
Interesting. I can't stand Tom Hanks either, but can't think of a single song from his films that fits into this category.
Not even this Bruce classic?
How many of these songs were written specifically for the movie soundtrack?
Indeed - lots of great songs up there but for instance "You're So Vain" was quite popular far before the film that featured it
this, though - great film, better song 🙂
This is pretty crap too, but the film was crapper. And of the same title? Who knows!
Nobeerinthefridge
Highlander soundtrack. Classic Queen, dreadful film.
Get out. Now!
(just watched it with my son a couple of weeks ago. Still an absolute cracker of a film)
I don't think Purple Rain is the worst film TBH, but pretty much every song on the album apart from Computer Blue is a an absolute classic.
this, though – great film, better song 🙂
I hope you are being ironic?
The only redeeming feature of that film was Alan Rickman's performance the rest of it was packed with cliche.
I can't stand the song either, but that might be because it was everywhere when I was at college.
Interesting. I can’t stand Tom Hanks either, but can’t think of a single song from his films that fits into this category.

Most of the music on The Commitments.
One good moment in the film though:
Track listing
Oh.
Dune by Toto.
What about 'Eye of The Tigger' from Sly Stallone's Winnie the Pooh movie. That got pretty big.
Didn't someone on here say they wanted a tattoo of the lyrics? Golly.
Chesney - good call
another controversial once as the film was great
hmmm, can’t embed tonight. Anyway, Phil Collins – Against all odds
It would have to be a pretty crap film to be better than a Phil Collins solo effort...
Actually, ‘In The Air Tonight’ ain’t bad, and ‘No Jacket Required’ isn’t a bad album, but he was pretty much responsible for the musical plague that was gated reverb on drums, the technology that ruined the 80’s. 😖
Entire Suckerpunch soundtrack. Pretty music videos for an otherwise turd of a movie.
I actually quite enjoyed the film, the multiple-personality syndrome was something I’d read about, and it was an intriguing foundation for the story, but the soundtrack is something else, I actually downloaded it onto my phone while me and my mate drove home from seeing it in Bristol, and I still love hearing tracks pop up in shuffle on my phone.
Crank it up
From Knocked Up.
Oh, and thanks to CountZero, I'm now aware of gated reverb 🙂 Kate Bush Hounds of Love has got to be alright though CZ?
Theme from Shaft.
633 Squadron 🙂
Pretty ropey film - a Yank saving the day (again) and Mike Baldwin failing to avoid a Welsh mountainside.
But that soundtrack...
I’ll go for ‘A Kind of Magic’, Queen and Highlander and like the film too.
Also, ‘8 Mile’ by Eminem
I’d third Highlander. I like the film, but the Queen soundtrack eclipses it. Maine of the above don’t really count because the music was already popular before the film.
Vangelis Chariots Of Fire probably eclipses the film but as soon as you hear it you can’t forget the beach.
