What an amazing story.. total dignity in the face of the worst life throws at them... i am humbled.

The landscape of parts of Japan looks like the aftermath of World War Two; no industrialised country since then has suffered such a death toll. The one tiny, tiny consolation is the extent to which it shows how humanity can rally round in times of adversity, with heroic British rescue teams joining colleagues from the US and elsewhere to fly out.
And solidarity seems especially strong in Japan itself. Perhaps even more impressive than Japan’s technological power is its social strength, with supermarkets cutting prices and vending machine owners giving out free drinks as people work together to survive. Most noticeably of all, there has been no looting, and I’m not the only one curious about this

Foutheded, or whatever it is by now....!

Japan has much in common with Britain, I think. Small island with a proud history. Focus on family and chivalry, and above all a decent, honest society. Sadly it seems that ours is slipping more than theirs has.

?? to all those who survived.

They're clearly astute enough to realise that working together and looking out for each other is the only way they're going to get through this. Kind of restores your faith in humanity.

Whereas, in Gloucester, the water dries up for a few days and civilisation starts to break down. Mind you, civilisation broke down in Gloucester years ago. 🙂

respect - a feeling of deep admiration for someone or something elicited by their abilities, qualities or achievements.

why not the word "respect"?

Shame we're not like that. Sick of hearing "jokes" from folk who should experience something like this themselves before they open their mouths.

Yeah, why not the word ‘respect’, eh, kevevs? Seems perfectly appropriate to me, based on what I know of Japanese people.
