Someone has stolen my car fuse box, VW Passat

Well I can't find it. This is for the internal one. Trying to find the console cigarette lighter fuse.

The car is a 67 plate VW Passat. Opening the driver's door and removing the big cover reveals nothing.

Similarly opening the cubby box, undoing the two clips and opening reveals a big void.

The one I can find under the bonnet only has a few, see picture. PXL_20251218_122632953.jpg

I think it's the years where you removes the glove box and it's in the void somewhere. I had to search for it in a similar age polo.

Yeah, in an Octavia of that era it's behind the glove box. Though I thought that this was a Skoda cost saving measure and other VAG group cars were not similarly afflicted (I know my Audi wasn't).

Trying to find the console cigarette lighter fuse.

You didn't absent-mindedly shove a USB plug into the lighter socket and short it out, did you?  Because that's how I came to need to replace mine (not on a Passat, mind) 🤣

That was on a Mondeo - it was behind the glovebox, you had to remove it first

My Google foo is totally failing me for VW Passat glovebox Fuses.

The cause was the car getting flooded due to blocked sunroof drains.

look up how to remove the glove box and look behind it, that's where it is on an Octy of that age so good chance it's the same.

Warning, the little lever arm thing is annoying to re-fit

edit- sorry hadn't seen somebody had mentioned this already

Thread drift - Speaking of Passats, in the back of the headlamp cluster are two big rubber bungs and one plastic cover. The main beam bulb is behind one of the rubber bungs and dip bulb is behind the plastic cover. Does anyone know what's behind the other rubber bung (it's something that twists but doesn't come out)?

Perhaps my Fuse box is behind the light cluster. I'll take a look.

Relay this information back to us when you've checked.

(Sorry, I know I was complaining about too many pubs on the bad wife thread. I was just being a bit grumpy then, I can get a bit short...)

As long as there's a fuse there's a current.

That’s where my Octavia’s fuse box was, and just to complicate things, the illustration in the hand book showing what the fuses related to was a mirror image of the actual box! Confused? I certainly was!

That's a bit backwards....

Well currently there isn't but as the fuse box cant be found whether the fuse is there and lown or the fuse is perfectly functional but infact... not there.

It's Schrödinger's AT... (O) Innit.

  1. Oh the joy of cars designed for left hand drive and at the last minute someone remembers they need to put the steering wheel on the other side.

Resulting in an anecdotal £300 garage bill to replace a bulb on a Renault and an engine and gearbox removal to change the exhaust pipe on my Citroen GS (if I hadn't made a sneaky cut and bodge).

Found it. It was in the glovebox. Got a very sore finger now after trying to push the tabs in that hold the glovebox up.

Issue now is the glovebox soft open system is kyboshed so it opens with a clunk. The wife is going to have sore knees next time she looks in there.

Photo to prove I found it. And the actual issue. The garage had put the fuse in squew-wiff. PXL_20251219_141324298.LONG_EXPOSURE-01.COVER.jpg
