Looking to book a last minute deal somewhere, 7 days in the sun.

*Location:
Definitely not a fan of commercialised, touristy, Irish bar type resorts.
Near the coast, plenty of sunshine please.
Due to being by myself (25y/o guy, if that helps narrow down), some sort of interest/culture near by would be great. Old markets, history, tasteful nightlife, sport, anything really!

*Board basis:
Don't mind self catering if there's plenty of choice for decent food nearby. <<this bit is quite hard to filter through by only searching online descriptions.
Equally happy with a decent all inclusive stay - been stung once in the past with poor food, but two other occasions have been fine.

Initial thoughts are with Croatia.. (?)

Any ideas where to focus my search?

Thanks again folks 8)

Dubrovnik is absolutely lovely, I've not been anywhere else round there.

Im in Croatia at the moment, visited several locations over a 12 day period. Dubrovnik is Lovely place but it's my least favourate out of the ones we've visited and prices are almost double. Split would be a good start point and look at doing a day or two on nearby islands. Hvar town and Bol are two towns that i can recommend. Public transports cost are very reasonable and its pretty easy to navigate.

Mate of mine went to Lisbon by himself last year, had a great time. There's plenty to see, plenty to eat and drink (especially at the timeout market) and there's beach nearby if that's your thing. He stayed at a hostel and hooked up with some other people there who took him to choice bars etc'

yeah i'd recommend a hostel. go for a posher one if you don't like the idea of hostels, but they're great to meet people, get tips on where to go (especially day trips out of town etc), maybe go to a couple of bars and so on.

it's what i did when i was 25 anyway 😀

Cheers for everything so far. Plenty food for thought.

How about Malta? Seems like there's a good mix of old and new?

I'm currently in Baiona, Galacia in Spain having ridden 40 miles this morning on empty mountain roads, swam this afternoon before visiting a craft beer feria this evening. Don't bother visiting it's rubbish 😉

Cadiz.

Malta is great for diving. East coast is a bit mass touristy so may not be what you're looking for.

+1 for croatia, lisbon

if you are on your own consider hostels, get to meet people and have a better time, i hear people say if they won the lottery they would travel the world in posh hotels, it'd be a soleless/lifeless experience imho.
i would much prefer the hostel experience.

croatia fly into zadar, go to the plitvice parks, down to split out to the islands bol/hvar/vis and maybe a sidetrip upto mostar..

been 4 times to croatia and always love it.

I'd probably go to Croatia, I haven't been but it's next on the list for a none biking holiday.

Cinque Terra in Italy is a great place to hang out as is Lisbon.

I've stayed next to the LX Factory in an airbnb spot which was really good and highly recommended. Take the surf bus for some surfing morning too!

Book a flight somewhere, anywhere. DON'T book anywhere to stay more than 24 hours in advance. Travel light. Leave everything else to chance.

You're on your own - you don't have to please anyone else. Make the most of it.

My Irish buddy used to go the the airport and walk around the airline desks asking where they could take him last-minute for a seat-filler price. Then he would fly, arrive, find a hotel and toast himself on the beach all week. He was a gregarious type so had no trouble with his social life!

We have just spent a delightful four days here: http://www.cas-sant.com/

There is a bike hire place 10 minutes walk away and Port Soller is 10 minutes by bike and there's a second shop where you could stash the bike while swimming. It is not a package holiday resort.

Leave it till after schools go back

Plenty of quiet spots on Majorca, bit of road biking early morning

As above Galacia, tour up and down a bit. Rugged coastline and national park.

Sierra MTB for a mix of coastal sun and riding
White Room have some spaces for last few weeks of van uplift riding in Savoie
