I think we're safe now, just need the right gaffer to prepare for next season.

Half way through the first half it looked like Liverpool could be on for getting absolutely tonked 6 or 7 nil

Liverpool being Liverpool though, I’d stick a tenner on them losing to Leeds next week

Absolutely bonkers result, that. That’s about the same as you’ve scored all season, isn’t it? 😂

Fair play to Woy though. He knows what he’s doing

They’d have been fine with Vieira I’m sure. Panic sacking given their run in.

That ain't gonna happen - a damaging result for Leeds and what little confidence they had since Gracia took charge is well and truly obliterated after the Palace defeat.

Loved watching Hodgson in the post match interview, trying to stay calm and measured whilst failing miserably in hiding his absolute joy!

Felt sorry for Vieira, I saw Palace at OT a few weeks back and they were unlucky not to get a draw (Olise stood out that day as well), I'm pretty sure that Vieira would have kept Palace up but I'm not alone in thinking that way so I wouldn't be surprised to see him get another job soon.

And Eze by name, easy by nature. Watching him and Olise cut loose was a joy and that, as much as the scoreline put the joy on Roy's face at the end. .

I haven't watched crystal palace much, but from the highlights on MOTD etc their performances in the bad run of results seemed pretty decent, they just didn't get the rub of the green. So IMO this result could have happened under Viera, palace fans who watch them more might of course be in a better position to judge differently.

What do we reckon on the linesman elbowing Robinson? I kind of agree with Keane, Robinson is a big baby, likes to give it out and starts crying when he gets some back. Looks like he grabs the linesman first and he reacts to it badly, it is a weird movement to just try and suggest he was "shrugging off Robinsons grab" and you could see in his face he knew he had done something wrong.
I think the linesman will have to be suspended, but so will Robinson, not as bad as the Mitrovic incident but a fair bit worse than the Bruno shove.

I think it’s something that should be encouraged, so that when Mitrovic grabbed the ref he should have retaliated by head butting him. The likes of Kane and Romero who are constantly rolling around like they’ve been shot should be hoofed in the slats by the ref to give them a reason to roll around.

Lino will be in trouble, probably held to a higher account than Robertson. I don't think he meant to elbow him, but was an annoyed 'get your hands off me' that turned into an elbow.

Incredible point to me was that Robertson didn't seem to be poleaxed and need lengthy treatment before going off for his halftime orange. I don't know what to infer from that. maybe match officials have soft cushioned elbows in comparison to players?

Sure, linesman should be disciplined, but putting your hands on an official should be a couple of weeks automatic ban, IMO.

I don't think there's an equivalence, with respect to officials, as they need to be held to a much higher standard. Having seen the footage (admittedly from distance). Robertson appears to ask a question to the linesman, who walks on appearing to actively ignore him; Robertson seemingly places an arm on his back (yes, this is wrong if he did) but doesn't seem to be grabbing him. The linesman's reaction is the only physically aggressive part of the interaction, from the footage I've seen; he's actually lashing out.
To be booked for it was impressive though.

Robinson was clearly praying, when the linesman sprang a surprise attack an him.

Does the fact he was booked for it mean he can't also be retrospectively punished

Think it'll be pretty much over now for the incident, a few words after the game, apologies and the assistant will get some training or a week or two off games.

Thankfully it wasn't the England captain it happened too, he'd have been on the ground for most of halftime and the second half would start with a penalty for him to take 😂

It’s acted as a nice distraction from Howard Webb having to issue yet more apologies for the appalling standard of officiating that has once again cost teams points.

I’m sure that will come as a great comfort to Brighton

Looks like the assistant referee has spent a fair bit of time in the gym,

I'm not suggesting he's roided up or anything...

I still don't understand why players do this, the refs and assistants will not have a pally chat with them going in, it's not going to do anything other than let the player let off steam, which they can do in the dressing room in a minutes time.

There's far too much harassing of the ref and their team at games for me, i think there needs to be more control on the pitch by the captains to stop this, and that's why i pick on Kane and Fernandes a lot, they are captains, they should not be going to the ref unless requested, we keep saying make it more like rubgy, but it really does need it these days, maybe bring in a sin bin, harass the officials, get 5 minutes to cool off.

And today's big news - Paul Ince sacked from Berkshire's premier team with five games to go.

I suspect without the 6 points deduction we would have survived, this now feels like a last desperate grab at 'new manager bounce' shaped straws.

But his post match pronouncements had started to feel like losing the dressing room, so maybe it is for the best.

Just reading that Everton are about to terminate the contract of Deli Alli after a pretty shambolic loan deal at Bestiktas. I'd forgotten he was even at Everton.

Its difficult to see how you can go from a red hot international and club prospect at 19, to having your career effectively over at 27 (well... a few years before now, in all honesty). It seems its not for physical injuries either but mental health issues

re Robertson:

He's been an absolute shithousery Jedi for as long as I can remember. An absolute master at the dark art and 2nd only to Darth Emi Martinez IMHO.

I think this one caught up with him. If he hadn't been whinging in the Lino's ear, after hours, he wouldn't have caught the accidental elbow.

Been busy today and just noticed that Paul Ince has gone - kinda feel a little for him working with a board of directors that cost us 6 points but one comment on the BBC made me chuckle: 'Bye bye to 'The Guv'nor', the ridiculous nickname he gave himself'

Every former United player always gets a good reception on returning to OT, with one notable exception…

Paul Ince

A real team performance as well, there is a argument for every player in the man of the match award. John Stones and Nathan Ake for ****s sake, over the years their has been many centre backs who commentators claim could step into midfield, Stones and Ake are the first ones I can recall who actually have, and done it with aplomb.

Yep, thought Bayern would pose a bit of a challenge but City were very good. Could be their year for some European trinket.

City were excellent but Madrid will pump them before being pumped themselves by Napoli.

Make it so.

João Félix' job interview not going too well tonight.
Are refs contractually obligated to book the opposition at the Bernabéu?

I could see it happening, Seville were using the art of shithousery to get that draw and the ref fell for it.

Bit harsh, he knew nothing about that one, Malacia's was way way worse!

It was one of those games where ManU should have been clear and easy, but the changes, then Martinez injury didn't help and gave Seville that glimmer of hope.

What's harsh, the playacting? Even for once the commentators mentioned it. There was a hand push to the face by Weghorst which poleaxed a Seville player for a sizable amount of time. Baby. Baby.

It was quite a Spursy performance by them.

The worst thing to take out of last night is that with Martinez out it looks like we'll be starting the remaining games with Maguire and Lindeloff in central defence, so there goes the season. We'll be shipping goals left, right and centre with that pair, Maguire might well score a few at the wrong end himself

No, Binner's assessment of Maguire's og

I mean, he is a liability but little he could actually do about last night's calamity which was just a one of those things deflection

As Jon said, thought Maguire's OG was just really bad luck, he wasn't doing anything wrong, he didn't even move his head, it just smacked him and went in, Malacia on the other hand let the ball run to the Seville player, so was the cause of his OG in the end.

Spanish teams are just hard to play against due to their sh*thousery, they just get away with it in Europe all the time, where the standard of referee's can be a bit suspect at times, due to the pool of officials they have to use.

I thought the Maguire goal was brilliantly taken, showed real strikers instinct to head that into the corner.

It may have been unlucky, but he has an uncanny ability to be in the wrong place at the wrong time, invariably pointing at the place where he should be. His positional play is absolutely dreadful, which is why he never starts unless literally everyone else is out injured.

Ten Hag has been playing Luke Shaw in that position before starting Maguire and Shaw has been consistently better than him

He's an absolute donkey!

Not all Spanish (hmm, tetchy subject) footballers are shithousers.

Premier leaguers take note. Be more Carles

Villa absolutely all over Newcastle.

Let's see what magic Eddie can come up with at half time.

If we're talking, as we were, about individual players having a renaissance, how about a whole club?

What a job Emery has done at Villa! I've always had a hatred of Villa, formed during the Paul lambert era, where they were always just about escaping relegation by grinding out spirit-crushingly dull 0-0 draws by parking the bus for 90 minutes. Guaranteed last game on MOTD every single week. Absolutely awful! I'm sure I wasn't alone in cheering when they finally went down and hoped they'd never darken the Premier League again

This is a blinding match though, and I hate to say it but they're now really good to watch! Ollie Watkins has been superb this season

EDIT: Right on cue!😂
