Woooah. I last looked when they had just gone two up, thought they were in for a famous European night.

Looks like the fan strategy of letting off fireworks outside Real's hotel last night worked well.

Liverpool are just a side that are full of errors, they've had a good couple of games, but a bit of pressure and there's always a mistake in there, especially in the midfield and at the back. Real were too good, Modric just never ages, same with Benzema.

Napoli look good as well, i think whoever gets Osimhen this summer is on to a winner, Chelsea spent a fortune and this lad is what they really need, think ManU are sniffing around him as well, that would be some upgrade to Weghorst!

After 15 minutes, watching Celtic fans knew exactly how the Liverpool game would go.

Real Madrid will let you play for a while, but then they take the ball back after 20 minutes or so and just set about you. When they came to Celtic Park in the group stage, we all got excited as we cut through them a few times in the first half (unfortunately without managing to score) and thought we were onto something. Then they just got going and gave us a lesson in how to win games. They'll just suss you out then expose any fragility you have over and over again.

So when do man u play their European stuff? This is the period where the poor sods in the Europa League have to squeeze in an extra round, assuming they progress. Tough. I remember 2 consecutive years not long ago with spurs playing every 3 days for over a month.

Return leg at home to Barca tomorrow. 2-2 last week.

Not sure how I feel about this one TBH. Win it and possibly go all the way and pick up the EL cup, but how much might those Thu night games cost us in the league (and any potential FA cup run)? Wasn't bothered last time we won it with Jose. Can't see winning the league, but second place is on.

It should be a belter of a game on Thursday, but I'm with you on this one. Its the Europa League so its always
just 'Not the Champions League' and you'd like to think that a top four is the very least of our expectations, so next years champions league qualification won't depend on it (hopefully). But it is a big night against Barca and the first leg was an absolutely brilliant match, so its just a case of enjoying watching us play some decent football

Like you, I don't think we can win the title this year. Its a step too far, despite the massive improvement under Ten Hag. Thats still a two horse race, but at least its resembling a proper title race and one we're still hypothetically involved with. Its been a while.

Meanwhile, watching the currently more successful Manchester team playing I'm slightly curious in that Grealish has forgotten how to fall over on a whim.

He doesn’t really have to though, does he. This looks like a Sunday afternoon kickabout

Has anybody ever actually seen Timo Werner score?

I think Werner once scored in a warm-up but it was offside.

Bit of a shock. One of my earliest TV memories was Motty in his sheepskin coat in a blizzard.

Dominant second half. End product from Antony!

Well that was a game of two halves

Superb second half performance! Fred was unreal? Cheeky backheals from Shaw? What’s going on?! 😳

Every time I see him I think “**** me! Steve McClarens our assistant manager (again) isn’t he?” 😂

The Walley with the Brolly? I thought it might have been him, I'd know that scarlet face anywhere.

Apparently so.

I’ll just take beating Barca for now. Let’s call it ‘managing expectations’

Good result for man u, got to be pleased with beating Barca, whatever the competition. If I knew how to do quotes I'd go and find binner's posts from about 3 games into the season when he'd already given up. Must be feeling very different now and that is why we love football.

Who's next? Has the draw been done?

This is just typical Newcastle.

Get to a domestic final and then go on the worst run of form for the season.

Lose a keeper, who has been superb all season, to a bizarre red card.

Then the opposition go an absolute excellent run, after being weak and disorganised at the start of the season.

Absolutely no chance on Sunday, it could be embarrassing.

Don't forget also losing the substitute keeper as he's already played for the opposition!  He'll get a medal though 😉
I don't think it'll be a rout on Sunday, but United look very strong favourites!

Thanks to this thread, my Jnr Red now has a nice Stanley Chow print coming for his birthday 🙂

Guimares back and champing at the bit. Redemption for Karius who is a fine keeper, and later tests showed his CL 'mare was when he was concussed from an earlier collision. Newcastle have the ability to shred sides and while they have gone off the boil and lost form, who's to say they won't find it again. And a great manager and motivator. I think it's far from a foregone conclusion, but I hope the other United think it is and turn up on that basis.

I can't believe I'm watching the same team beat Barca that started the season as a shambolic mess who got absolutely turned over by Brentford. I don't think I've ever sworn so much during a match. It was embarrassing. Possibly the worst United performance I've ever watched.

They're now unrecognisable from that. I'm really rather enjoying the transformation, obviously. The signing of Casimero, Erikson and Martinez has had a huge impact, but so many players like Fred and Dalot have improved so much under Ten Hag, its unbelievable. And Rashford is just off the chart, which is a joy to watch as we all absolutely bloody love him!

As for Sunday... its a cup final. All bets are off. We were discussing it last night and concluded that Karius is going to have the game of his life, isn't he?

Who’s next? Has the draw been done?

We've got Real Betis who are presently 5th in La Liga

It was nice to see the reception Van Persie got at OT last night with the whole place chanting his name. I still can't quite believe Arsenal sold him to us

Gobuchul, the one thing I've learnt about football is, many strange things can happen, especially in a knockout competition. Just enjoy being at a final and see what comes!

Well I don't think it's a foregone conclusion, by any stretch of the imagination. You may not have Pope*, but you've still got a pretty bloody formidable defence in front of Karius (who I just know is going to have a great game).

Last night was a tough match and theres going to be some tired legs out there on Sunday.

Ultimately, we started this season with our heads in our hands as it looked like we'd picked up where we left off last year, so we had zero expectation. I'm just looking forward to a cup final (we've got everyone round at ours to watch it) and think its got the potential to be a great match

*which I genuinely think is a real shame - he's quality and has had such a great season, it seems really harsh that he'll miss a cup final

Bit disappointed with Barcelona last night, as poor a Barcelona side as I've seen in recent memory. Credit to Utd for changing things at HT but still, Barca were a shadow of what has gone before.

Astonished that they're ahead of Madrid in La Liga, given how strong Madrid were against Liverpool.

Cup final is very even I think. Newcastle will be bang up for it, and have had plenty of rest. They’ll cause United a lot of issues at set pieces with Trippier’s delivery and the height they have (Burn, Isak etc).

The quotes from the press conference are very vague!

I call it BS, just some mind games before he starts on Sunday.

Best thing Ronaldo did for United was leave them. Like Aubameyang leaving Arsenal - clearly both ended up being massively disruptive influences in the dressing room, look how bad Chelsea have been since they signed him.

The whole thing about him coming back was just bizarre. Ten Hag clearly wanted rid of him from day one. I know that his contract was allegedly terminated by mutual consent, but I suspect he jumped before he was pushed. Its clear that Ten Hag doesn't give a toss about reputations and certainly won't tolerate any prima donna behaviour

I'd love to know what he thinks about how the team have flourished to such a massive degree since he was shown the door

Aubameyang going to Chelsea was equally as odd

This has to be the worst attempt at "mind games" in the history of football.

Also, if we play with 10 men that play like the 9 vs Liverpool, I'll be pretty confident for a win, As mentioned earlier, MU have had a busy couple of weeks and UNITED have played half the games MU have

Ten Hag's been shithousing the ref already as well. Moaning about United being annoying, timewasting, etc. Apparently he had time with Ferguson this week who was a master of owning the refs before games, telling them what to watch out for.

I would love it, LOVE IT to break the wait against MU on sunday

I think it’s going to a really good match and pretty even. Nice to rekindle an old classic rivalry

I remember Newcastle being one of the best games I’ve ever watched at Old Trafford. I’ve just googled it and it was the 2002 season. It ended up 5-3 with Newcastle scoring the first, Shearer scoring and finishing with a Van Nistelroy hat trick. It was an absolute corker.

Nah, 5-0 against Man U at SJP. Still can't believe it unravelled at the end of the season. (actually, best games ever, at least ones in public consciousness, so not Reading - Plymouth , were the couple of 4-3 classics against Liverpool)

Peacock slamming home the opener, classic from Ginola, Ferdinand and Shearer scoring typical Ferdinand and Shearer goals. And then Philippe Albert decides to cap it all off .....

Got to admit I still enjoy this from time to time, Shearer just staring at him while Keane loses his shit.

Remember that moment and got the feeling the Saipan sulk was pretty glad Shearer didn't get to him.

Classic. He didn't even try until Beckham had a hold of him. Keane is an absolute BSer.

Is his finger still stuck to the side of his head?

I'm sure it signifies something deep and meaningful, but it always looks odd, even in the world of goal celebrations.
