I've received in the post just now a "wireless lighting speaker". Essentially a cheap-ass Bluetooth speaker with some LEDs on the outside.

Thing is, I didn't order it. They have my correct name and address on the label - though oddly it says "[my name], Technology Group, [my address]" - and the return address looks just to be a distribution centre. For added oddness, the retail box inside the mailer isn't sealed, it's been opened.

I can only assume it's a mistake. But what's baking my noodle is, if it is a mistake, how / why does it have my correct name on it?

I've rec'd in the post this morning a cheque...Not from me, not made out to me, it's from a primary school at least 10 miles away looks like it's for a cleaning firm. I think it's been returned in one of our envelopes that's marked as unknown at this address...There's no address on the cheque.

No idea...

Brushing scam? Trivial to find your name and address to use.

Have you tried asking it? The answer might be illuminating!

Have you ordered something that has been swapped out?

Brushing scam?

I had to google that.

Trivial to find your name and address to use.

If that's the case then it's a recent breach, I moved house back in November. I'd be far more inclined to think that might be the case if it was an address I'd lived at formally for 20 years and unofficially for as long again, rather than six months. Granted, it's been a rare day since moving where we haven't had a delivery, but I shred all my paperwork and the boxes go to the local recycling centre.

As Zilog says fake reviews. Probably paid for with a stolen credit card.

That was actually my first thought. But I don't think I was expecting anything today and the only thing I'm expecting this week is a low-value item (parts to fix my washing machine). And as above, the return address is a distribution centre. "Scanwell Logistics" in Hounslow, TW4 5DJ.

Reckon that's a typo, should be Scam-well logistics. 😁

Well, mystery solved now that I've opened it. It's inscribed.

It's our company's 30 year anniversary this year, seems it's a freebie from work.

Storm in a glass of water, sorry to have bothered you all.

Well at least I know what a brushing scam is now as that was a new one for me (thanks Kelvin)

Deffo the brushing scam/fake reviews thing. There's a post on another forum I use where people have been getting mystery Amazon parcels for a few years. One guy posted a pic of his haul and it looked like the stockroom of a budget electronics store.

That's what they want you to think.....

Standard KGB practice, targets always fall for the old 'inscribed' trick.

Right?

I can't help wonder what the non-'technology group' received.
