Well the tickets are being flown 4,500 miles from the United States to Britain, so I can't see a problem with all the other stuff being produced abroad.

Why did it have to be a ****ing alien that looks like a dildo? Since when did the UK have a history of anal probing aliens, that belongs to Nevada.

Why not Paddington or something that will sell to tourists?

And the point being, we don't even have the balls to insist on a UK company to make these...It's OK though, not like we are in recession and manufacturing needs a boost from some big event like the olympics or anything.

Wer'e on a budget you know! Imagine how much those mugs would cost if they were made in Stoke on Trent.
At least they'd have 'Made in Stoke on Trent, home of UK Pottery' wouldn't they?

That thing ^^^ above is truly awful.
£20 for mug 😯

I'm selling Union flag Handbags for £20 (for the small) and £25 for the large sling bag here: http://emmyjane-design.blogspot.com/. Much more tasteful and Made by me, with fabric made and printed in an old fashioned working mill in Glossop, Derbyshire. So apart from sourcing the cotton (Johnny Foreigner) it's more British than above.

Has anyone mentioned that they think Olympics are a massive waste of money and won't be watching any of it yet?

No?

Disappointing, STW ...

Matt are you really swurprised?

Seems clear to me - they need as much profit as possible on the tat sold to recoup some of the billions wasted.

Erm, Paddington is of course Peruvian.

She's the logo, not the mascot.

joao...correct me if I am wrong, but the money spent on Olympics rarely sees the take-up of sport and other desired benefits that they are sold on. Huge facilities under-used etc.

And FWIW I think it's the UK that's behind the Olympics, not just Britain? I suppose I should be thankful it wasn't touted as the "English Olympics" 😉

Erm, Paddington is of course Peruvian.

Now that's where you're wrong

He did indeed come in from Peru and initially claimed asylum - and a weekly giro
The HO lost the paperwork so gave him indefinite leave to stay in the UK + another giro
He's since been awarded citizenship and given a job issuing giros

🙂

You're all getting way too cynical. They've clearly got to manufacture that stuff in China as this country has no significant history of either textile or pottery production.

We need to sieze this opportunity to promote things made by historically established British companies, promoting things that we as the British nation do so well

New Nissan anyone?

Oddly enough i work in the signage industry and we will be producing some olympic stuff, its olympic rules this time that all our materials have to be european sourced, trouble is we have been told by suppliers that there isn't enough in europe yet to do it all, so i suspect some cheating will have to occur!

Its part of the deal China made when they sold us The Games.
When we're done with them and sell them on to someone else to use in four years time, we can include a tat-making sub-clause too if we like.

“We’ve created our mascots for children. By linking young people to the values of sport, Wenlock and Mandeville will help inspire kids to strive to be the best they can be,” - Lord Coe, chairman of the London Organising Committee of the Olympic games

We're paying an extra £200 on our council tax for the games - so we're paying for it more a little more than you are.
