Ducati 1199 Panigale:

[img] [/img]

DETAILS HERE

Apart from a whole host of motorcycle uber-geekery, it' the first production bike to use full LED lighting.
(About time methinks)

But that's gotta be something a little bit special in the LED world, even to us lot, yes...? 🙂

But apart from that, just look at it. Go on. Stare. (Yes, this is a thinly veiled excuse for posting pics of it)
**dribbles**
Yes. If I had £20k, I'd order one tomorrow, no hesitation at all. Maybe I'll get a used one in 10 years..... 🙂

Is the cat a decent mouser?

....Or the wife for that matter?
😉

--------------

I mean. 195bhp and summit like 95lb/ft torque
Thats WSB power and Harley grunt, all in one. That could seriously distort all sense of reality, that bike.

There's an article in MCN today all about the decompression system alone. It's an engineers wet dream, apparently 🙂

There are so many great styling features from other bikes I don't know where to start.

Why is there not a drool smiley?!

Eek! - look at the proportions on those pistons!!

[img] [/img]

How long before oval pistons make a return?

side & back looks nice, but it looks a bit 'beaky' to me at the front.

Might look better in real life, perhaps.

I like. The front looks like a really really angry 916!

But - Italian & electics & innovation = I'll wait at the back of the queue, thanks very much!

Italian electronics lead the world these days.

Sure is pretty. Shame they're not brave enough to race it.

Hope it's not the same frame design as the current MotoGP bike. Still, if it is, it'll give all the track day Fogarty wannabe's a get out after they lose the front end out of their own ineptitude. 😀

I'd rather have an NSR-500V, now that was the ultimate twin.

Pretty hard to tell from those shots 😉

Almost certainly an LED which has been being used in bike lights for quite a while, given the typical design lead time for something new like this. P7? Though it does appear to have fully customised optics, which is where the big differences are to be made with LEDs now.

Nope. Moto GP bike is monocoque carbon, this is an alloy beam.

Stop living in the past 🙂
Ducati have a better reliability record than BMW in recent years, and as above, Italian electrics are leading the world these days. There hasn't been a Duke with remotely dodgy electrics for, ohh, 8-10 years now.

Haven't wanted another motorbike for 15 years but if I could afford one ( which I can't 🙁 ) one of them would look very nice in my garage.

Shit the bed... 112mm pistons, and only a 60.8mm stroke! That's a shorter stroke than my 748 has got, and this is bigger in capacity by 451cc!!! I remember them saying ages ago as Ducati went past the 1.5:1 Bore/Stroke ratio that it was an immense acheivement, as with a V Twin it's very hard to balance the engine out for various reasons with such large pistons and a short stroke. Much easier on a multi cylinder engine such as an inline 4, or a V8, to run ridiculous Bore/Stroke ratios (reputedly F1 engines are in the 2.5:1 sort of area), but that's impressive they've obviously not only done it but made it easy to ride on the road too.

And 15,000 mile major service intervals... Honestly, the Ducati reliability knockers, you really are a decade or so out of tune... Like those people still telling the jokes about Skodas breaking down all the time only a few years ago, change your tack cos Ducati are leading the way these days for sure...

Liking the underslung exhausts too, know it's been done for years elsewhere, but about time Ducati moved a significant bulk down in the chassis, though I'm not a fan of the ultra short, Honda RCV wannabe tail unit it has to be said.

All the pistons I used to design looked like that (might even be my old company, Capricorn auto), they'll be fine if the tolerances are right. Pretty much all pistons are machined slightly oval (with an expensive lathe!), due to thermal expansion and the force exerted on them by the gudgeon pin.

Though this one was an alloy monocoque?

Don't like the looks, too generic sportsbike:

Not a patch on the Tamburini/Terblanche stuff, imo (loved the 748/999 btw, nice and cheap now thanks to the 'challenging' looks 🙂 )

Good point, 5thElephant, good point!

In my humble opinion, the Pagniale is awful - seat's not bad (very Diavel) but what's that horrible bit of split fairing under the tank hiding?

The tank itself looks like it's the result of a third year metalwork project, way too many creases and angles.

The fairing is, erm, interesting.
Lights look like the nose from a Ferrari 156, which is always a good thing, but the gaps around the lights are ugly, the exposed downpipes look like a Guzzi Norge and it's just too 'busy', with the panel joints and fasteners given way too much prominence.

The semi asymmetrical look doesn't work as well as it does on the BMW S100RR and the wheels are over complex.

Looks like it's been designed by a committee.

But what do I know! 😀

I/m not a biker (in fact I've been banned from owning one), but that seriously makes me want to go out any buy one. It is lovely.

It also sounds nice in a way that affects me downstairs...

Now THAT's what a Ducati should look like!

These are nice as well:

[img] [/img]
Massimo Bordi designed 851.

[img] [/img]
Tony Rutter's F2.
I know Harris did the frame for these, but no idea who designed the bodywork - one of the Harris brothers or Steve Wynne perhaps?
Stunning innit?

Well, I'm not much for sports bikes, always preferred the Monster meself, but that bike gives me a serious case of the hots. Damn, but that's a beautiful bike. C'mon, lottery, cough up, I want one of those and an 1100 Monster Dark. Not greedy, you understand...

HAhahahaahaa you're having a Giraffe.

THe 749's have a notoriously flaky earthing, the best way to fix it is fitting a secondary earth lead to another part of frame. Add that to the crap location of the front cylinder/plug leading to water ingress and failed plug issues.
We'll move onto the 1098 and 848 'dash' which constantly fail and cut-out.

Whilst i accept Ducatis are a million times better than in the past, although TBH it was only the reg/rec really on early 916's that were an issue. To say they have no problems any more is ... well... ridiculous.

Lastly we can throw the clocks/dash dying on the 749/999 range...

p.s... before you abuse me... i've owned 6 Ducatis, from 916's to Sport 1000's and currently a 749BP.

By far the prettiest bike ducati ever made. Well sort of, Cagiva owned ducati at the time and used their motors.

Oh, go on then. 😀

Funny, I hated those two (Elefant/DB1) directly above at the time, but they seem so
beautiful now.
The shape of things to come indeed.

The singles were nice too:

Druidh, why has your Darmah got a padded loo seat around the headlight?
And was that last one your DB1?
Lucky, lucky man.......
