And this thread demonstrates exactly why a two-way block would help defuse some of the more controversial disagreements without requiring the mods to read entire threads and make a judgement call.

It's win-win. Those who enjoy baiting people don't get triggered, those who aren't here for the abuse can block it out. I'd even pay for premier membership if it were an upgrade feature.

Even if a poster is intensely annoying I think I would find it worse to be ignorant to what they say.

As regards your second point, There are definitely folk who gravitate towards the politics threads and seem to appear nowhere else. As for listening to all opinions, I might not agree politically with, say, Ninfan, but hìs posts are, in the main, well argued and seem to reflect honestly-held views. He will then pop up on something like access issues and we are more likely to see eye to eye. Blocking him totally would therefore be a loss.

I've only blocked one on here and that's just because they are practically incoherent.
