Posting the usual tired rhetoric in Apple related posts is to be expected from CFH.....but to start a new thread for that purpose? This seems to be a display of the rabid zealotry that he is accusing the Apple customer base of possessing.....just going in the other direction.

I assume he realises he does not actually have to buy one if he does not like it...that is fine...really.

I recently bought a Blackberry for receiving and sending emails, and it is excellent for this. It means I am no longer tied to the computer. There are one or two elements which need improvement to enable greater efficiency, but you can't have everything.
Less time in the office, more time on the bike. Greater efficiency, happier and more customers.

So yes, it has changed my life. thanks for asking.

3 was lifechanging. First proper unified device which I'd been looking forward to since first got a Palm Pilot. 4 is incrementally better but in an evolutionary way rather than revolutionary.

Bought mine with a bumper as I'm a bit hamfisted - looks like Steve is giving me my money back - which is nice. Flashie, I can only guess that the bottom has dropped out of that aftermarket case company that you had shares in? 🙂

I regard my phone as being a tool, not a toy.

Its owned by the company, and does stuff I need it to regarding getting to places, making contact with people, storing and being able to open and modify Ms office docs, open pdf files, etc. It even has a screen-shot capability, so that I can save images of docs I have or info from the web I need.

I do not regard my phone as just an entertainment, although being able to listen to music when you're stuck on a train, or at an airport, etc, is useful. But not reason alone, for owning the thing, imo.
Nor does music influence the purchase decision.

To this end, I do not possess fashion phones, or the latest thing, for the sake of them.

My phone has to earn its keep.
🙂

S
EDIT: Oh, and no, a phone will never change my life but it may be useful to me, as I go about living it.

£30 + £65 per month? 😯 😯 😯 😯

Thats £1200 over 18 months and a scary £1590 over 24 months! Wow...

Total cost of my Desire will be £489, and that includes unlimited internet (not that it matters cos I'm only using around 200mb a month)

It's 18mths, but then I was spending more than that using an n97 on payandgo, so to me it's cheap like the birds!

Oh and it makes you look cool and more attractive to the opposite sex, obviously.

Spookys deal sounds similar to mine... 24 months at £15/month comes to £360. Phone cost £129. Total cost of £489.

That's on T-Mobile with 300 mins 300 txts, internet and a booster thing which is currently set to 90 mins of calls to Europe & Oz. Can change booster every 28 days.

I assume you're talking about the new iPhone?

Well two of my mates have them now and they are both very chuffed. None of the issues you mention.

Have you had a lot of problems with yours then Captain?

Oh and I wouldn't really call it "life changing", unless it is your first decent (e.g. iPhone or Droid) smartphone.
Getting iphone changed my life, but upgrading it won't really make that much odds.

No problems here - it's definitely an improvement on the 3GS IMO but life changing? Not sure about that though if / when my wife gets one then facetime will be cool.

The thread condensed for those who can't be arsed :-

My badge of consumerism is better than your badge of consumerism.

No, my badge of consumerism is better than your badge of consumerism.

Sod this, I'm off to consume something else.

Got a free iphone for the Mrs through a points incentive scheme with a company I deal with so be interesting to see how it changes her life 😉 😆 Told I could upgrade next month by T-Mobile so thought I would get a Desire they now tell me I am not eligible until October now, however they do agree I was told incorrectly so they can either upgrade me or loose me. Simples I may join in the smart phone comparison threads just to wind up the Apple cult fanatics. 😆

hora, I was jut trying to work out if the addition of mastiles_fanylion opinion thus gave this thread a point or if his previous comment implied that his opinion was also pointless or if his latter comment contradicted the pointless nature of this thread in the first place?

well if it helps I'm utterly disgusted that I can't put more than 12 apps in a single folder, my current favourite pointless apps are as follows:

FML (f88k my life) - well not really an app but a bookmark, still tis funny, contains gems like this:

FML #761206
www.fmylife.com
Today, I came home to find a sock I previously used to whack off on my bed with googly eyes and a mouth drawn on it with a note that read "Because you can't find a real girl, I made your current one prettier, Love Mom." FML

and also TFLN, which is an app, that stands for "texts from last night"

also liking

Guitartoolkit

ConcertVault

InstantPoetry

Hipstamatic

and other stuff

almost all of which is utter pointless!

a friend bought an iphone the other week. not the 4 but the previous version i think. shop was trying to get rid of them i guess. 300 minutes, unlimited texts, 500mb data, free phone, 18 month contract, £40 a month.
I worked out that on O2 simplicity that deal costs £15 a month leaving you £450 to buy a phone. and that was a good deal apparently?

In other news I'm a sat here at the country club and I notice that pre update I had but one bar of signal now I happen to have two, I don't think the building has moved?

dirtbiker: that sounds like a crap deal.

I'm looking at the O2 deals now and 18 months, 300 mins, unlimited texts and 500mb data is £35pm plus £95 for an 8Gb 3Gs.

That's £725 over 18 months.

Simplicity equivalent would be 18 months at £15 plus £419 for the sim-free phone.

Which is £689 over 18 months.

Umm.
I am very happy with my new phone, as it's the best electronic toy I've ever had. I was prepared to be underwhelmed, but it does more than I imagined. Oh yes, HTC Desire.

I have shifted from 3G to 3GS and boy it's a difference! So much quicker and os4 is a treat on it. iPhone 4 is nice and shiny but unfortunately out of my range for quite a while.

ah got you mr n

its generally films and videos i like to store, 32g doesn't give me enough room for photos, music and my animal porn collection, let alone the sms, hardcore and gilf stuff

Has it changed my life? No. Have there been any signal issues, over and above the normal fluctuating signal I get at work? No. Does it allow me to listen to Lauren Lavern's entire show on 6Music without buffering all the time and the battery running out after two hours? Yes. In fact I still have half the battery life remaining. Result! Oh, and I've got double the memory and storage too. Works for me, couldn't give a toss about anyone else.
