MegaSack DRAW - 6pm Christmas Eve - LIVE on our YouTube Channel
Has anyone tried any tech for fighting snoring.
I have tried foam roles, those jelly ones from Boots & the some blue plasticine type ones.
The blue were the best but still stop working after about 5-10 nights.
I found some tech ones Quieton, but they are not cheap & play no music but look to be built specifically for the job.
Any one tried Quieton or some of the music playing ones to regularly sleep in ?
Are you the snorer, or the victim?
I keep a crocodile dundee sized knife on my bedside cabinet.
I’ve noticed that when i remind my wife it’s there, she doesn’t snore for a couple of nights.
This proves that it is deliberate behaviour which can be stopped.
And of course, if she won’t stop voluntarily, i can remove the choice for her.
I saw that Bose had some noise cancelling ear plugs specially for that purpose. At 175 quid (IIRC) that's not cheap but if they worked it would be worth the money! Other than that, I find it hard to sleep with industrial strength ear defenders, so when I absolutely need my z's it's the spare room for me (not fair, I know!)
I use jaybird Tarah pro. I have tried plugs of various types like you and found that actually listening to something with a timer to stop it is the best as it helps drown it out. Also prefer that they are attached to each other which makes it harder to lose a bud if it falls out in bed. I'm so used to it now that I wake up in the morning with them still in.
Victim.
The bose are about the same price.
I'm increasingly using the spare bedroom but I find that a really depressing solution
There are some plugs on amazon that the snorer inserts up their nose which worked pretty well when I was bad. Ultimately, they also helped me realise it was time to shed some weight, so I don't actually snore anymore!
I feel your pain! Mrs W is a snorer and a tooth grinder. I’ve tried bose noise cancelling headphones, they’re too big to sleep in for any length of time.
The only thing I’ve found that works is for me to drink a bottle of wine before bed and pass out!
You can get a head band/ear warmer type thing with headphones in it so you can listen to music or white noise or whatever whilst you sleep. It's made to be slept on on your side. Lots of people rate them for snoring victims. I'll look for a link
The noise cancelling headphones are a bad solution for snoring. You can't sleep on your side with them on, and you really need to be listening to something for them to work well.
Id be looking at getting some custom plugs made. I've had a few sets for work - they will take a mould of your ear and because they fit so well they work much better than the cheapo boots ones. For example - https://www.ultimateear.com/product/custom-sleeping-earplugs/comment-page-1/#comments
I have a keen interest in this topic as feel like I'm sleeping next to a jackhammer. The plugs that work best for me are Lunox earplugs that are washable and very comfortable for sleeping in.
Have tried loads of other types but just keep falling out, uncomfortable or just don't work. Beware of ones that look similar but are crap.
I do like Ginger's suggestion of custom made ones 🙂
Also agree a bottle of wine has similar effect!
Woodster. Your missus must sleep in a mouth guard. It eventually trains the grinding away and only then needs occasional use. I have been a grinder for years Nd my teeth are breaking regularly now. It weakens them a lot so they split, nasty as no one who has spent any time researching them wants a root canal or implant. My wife now works for a dentist and they made he a mouth guard which works great. I got used to sleeping in it and now only need it very occasionally.
Grinding is very destructive.
The snoring.
My missus (a slim piece) has been a truffle finder pretty regularly.
What has surprisingly almost totally cured her snoring and has led to better sleep for us both is a bedside atomiser (Stadler Form Jasmine which has a periodic setting) used with organic oregano oil from Zane Hellas.
Helps with sinus infection which is often the cause. Oregano is antibacterial anti viral.
HIH
I also have a snoring otherhalf. After some trials I found and now use these:

One pair lasts about a week and they cover the earhole aperture as opposed to being put 'in' the ear canal. Cheap enough to give them a trial.
Good luck
And find the spare room a better solution. First to sleep doesn’t suffer. It’s not normally me.

I bought some ultimate ear(*) plugs from Boots - not custom made, just rubber flanged jobbies. However, one of them got lost inside my ear. Not dangerous but alarming. The missus had to fish it out with tweezers. After I complained they said they would give me a discount on the custom ones, but I needed to get a mould of my ear. They suggested I go to their office but that's miles away. Then they said they'd come by my work, which seemed excellent. But they never did, so the whole thing is forgotten. But it left me with a bad opinion of the company.
(*) checking out the website , it may not have been ultimate ear, but a similar product 🙂
@mudfish Mrs W has the dentist fitted mouth guard.....I get “told of” for waking her to get her to put it in!
It’s a bit of a catch 22, we have a spare room, she doesnt think I should sleep in it as it would end up a permanent solution....
She also had to be touching me in bed! So when i get her to roll over to stop the snoring I end up with the last few mm’s of the bed!!
My wife snores quite a lot, and after struggling with different ear plugs for some time I found a local company that make custom ear plugs so gave them a try.
https://mercurycustomplugs.com/
They are amazing and have helped me get good night's sleep for about 18 months so far. They don't completely block out all noise as the some travels through the body but no sound comes down the ear canal.
The company makes ear plugs for lots of different circumstances like shooting, DJ's, motorsport etc but he said their biggest demand is for sleeping ones. The company travels around to different trade shows so worth keeping an eye out on where they are going to be, once the trade shows stay up again, as they take ear mouldings at the shows and then post the finished plugs to customers.
Wow who knew there were so many of us out there?! I’m liking w00dsters bottle of wine solution though 😀
My g/f snores very loudly, so do I, TBH, but I’m asleep so it doesn’t bother me!
I bought these from Amazon, used similar things for years for gigs, they work very well, they’re very soft and comfy, it helps to moisten the end before putting them in your ears, and pulling the ear back and out helps open the canal and lets the eartip sit correctly.
Look for these on Amazon, I can’t post a link, it keeps going to my order and gives a Kindle error when I try to post it.
4Pairs Soft Foam Ear Plugs for Sleeping Noise Cancelling

OP here folks.
Thanks for the responses.
I have gone for a tech solution. https://quieton.com/sleep/?v=79cba1185463
Not cheap, but 2 nights in & they do work.
They are tiny & for me at least sleeping on the side has been fine.
I'll report back again after a longer test.
Interesting on the custom moulded plugs. I have not seen them before.
If these die - as they surely will eventually, or I loose one I will go for those.
Happy sleeping folks.
