Someone in our household 'cough' snores and keeps others awake, ending up in slight grumpiness in the morning, from not having a blissfull nights continuous sleep.

Those pillows don't work.
Turning person over and kicking them in the back doesn't work.

Any cures that have worked for you?

I find beconase randomly helps to tame my snoring. Its an allergy nasal spray so I guess my snoring is partially brought on by allergy's.

i have narrowed nasal passages and i smoke so i've been known to snore. I learnt to sleep in a different position that opens the nasal passages and opens the airways to prevent snoring. It kind of involves using my arm to pull the skin on my face back and having my head tilted back

not glamorous

but it works

Wouldnt have thought Jules could afford to loose much weight either.

Get one of these babies. Make him wear that at night and fire away everytime the windows start to rattle!

20% of the population experiences snoring problems.
Males and obese people have more problems with snoring.
People with snoring problems tend to have one of the following conditions:

Poor muscle tone in the tongue and throat
Excessive bulkiness of throat tissue
Long soft palate and/or uvula tissue in the back of the mouth
Obstructed nasal airways
......
electric zapper springs to mind...

+1. I don't have kids, but if I ever do I intend to use them for the 2nd part, too.

I use earplugs sporadically because I have tinnitus and it exacerbates the effects so I don't like them, but when I do its bliss to sleep through.

I used to snore chronically, sometimes even stopping breathing while I slept. After a few failed attemts to cure it I ended up having a procedure that basically involved burning loose flesh away from the back of my throat with a laser 😯 Not very pleasant at the time as you are awake and get to smell your own flesh burning but it cured me so worth it in the end. The only time I'm known to snore now is if I've had a fair few drinks or I'm full of cold.

Can I just point out that neither party can afford to lose weight, and sadly the non-snorer is the one who has to get up at Stupid O Clock in the morning to go to work and hence has to be able to hear the alarm clock, so ear plug are a no-no

My missus has to wear ear-plugs to help drown out the sound of my snoring but apparently it still vibrates through the bed so if she's not sleeping well anyway I just make it worse & she gets annoyed at me. 🙁
My Dad is just as bad, worse infact, and neither of us are overweight, think it's just coz we sleep with our gobs open & breathe through them instead of our nose!

Really considering seeing what my GP can offer, coz I don't wanna be doing this for the rest of my life...

Another vote for ear plugs. I'm afraid its the only option. Everything else is pointless and doesn't work. I've been reliably informed that motorcycle earplugs are the best. Ahem....

I'll await any members of the South Manchester Massive posting the 'hilarious' footage of my industrial level snoring keeping an entire campsite awake at Long Mynnd 🙂

Ear plugs... up his nose. If that doesn't work stick them up his ass.

Erm.... yes.... I was particularly 'tired and emotional' that evening. When we went to Nant Y aran, Campervan slept in the bath rather than continue to share a double room with me

Its a terrible terrible affliction. Well.... terrible for everyone other than me 🙂

Lose weight and get your collar size to under 40cm. Chronic snoring can be a sign of sleep apnea.
This conditions is one of the biggest causes of car accidents in the morning and mid afternoon due to day time somnolence.
UPPP (Uvulopalatopharyngoplasty), the sculpuring of the back of the throat with a laser/ scapel has some benifit, but as one poster said you smell your own flesh and it hurts.
Continous positive airway pressure (CPAP)therapy is the biggest help but you do have to wear a mask.

Sorry but earplugs are not the answer. The answer is right there on the bed, it's the pillow that should be placed over the offenders face and pressed very firmly down until the problem is eliminated.

I've used those sticky strips across my nose with some success. The ones that open your nasal passages.

Not a cheap option though, £13 for 30.

Separate beds? I have separate rooms and I had the operation a year or so ago and I'm still too loud.
I actually prefer sleeping on my own now.

After wasting a large amount of money on various "cures", I tried one of these. Takes a while to get used to and gives you jawache for first night or so, but it has cured my very bad snoring problem

Ewwwwwww

That's even less attractive than the fantasies I normally have of you!

Although it is growing on me.
