Doing a tandem freefall parachute jump this afternoon! What's it like? Should I change into darker trousers? I'm not that good with heights...

It's hard enough without a really big bike...

the thing with skydiving is that if at first you don't succeed then it's probably not for you.

It's fab!

You'll be worried in the plane and wish if would get to altitude more quickly. Look out of the window and enjoy the view (not down)

Sitting on the edge of the doorway is a bit weird but you're out before you know it. Free fall is amazing.

When the parachute is deployed, you slow down VERY quickly - hope all those straps are confortable,

Rachel

Just make sure you scatter out plenty of cardboard boxes on the ground first. 😀

What Rachel said.
After the initial jump from the plane I found it a bit of an anti-climax.

Awsome is the word ,i did a a tandem and a couple of of solo jumps (not freefall).would love to have done a few more but is expensive and when starting out the weather is a big factor, even the slightest breeze for a novice and no jump.

Thanks for all the replies, especially Rachel. Will be jumping in about 6 hours. Looking forward, but at the same time would like to get it over with.

Take a book or something - the hanging round waiting to go is the worst part. Not in terms of nerves, it's just bloody boring.

did a skydive in NZ a couple of years ago.. heres how it went for me..
flight up... nerves nerves nerves.. takes forever..

sitting on the edge.. even more nerves..

jumping out and seeing the plane fall away above..?? you... WEIRD and scary..

first few seconds of freefall.. exhilarating scream scream scream..

rest of the freefall.. windy and boring.. doesnt feel like you are falling at all i found..

parachuts opens.. OOOFFF!!

parachuting about.. (even got to have a go at controlling it a bit!) was AMAZING!! best bit about it i think! so calm and peaceful with some quite stunning views.. floating thru the air!

Landing.. no drama..!

Saw a tandem skydive video recently of an old lady almost falling out of her harness on exiting the plane, looked like a proper nightmare.

Tried to find it on youtube just now but couldn't.

Don't search for 'tandem skydive gone wrong'!!!

I've not done a Tandom, but a fair few solo jumps... you will love it...! Its an amazing day for it up north as well... don't know where you are jumping?

You will be in safe hands... but check the straps are all sitting comfortably before you jump... if you get anything trapped, it hurts like hell... and that is from bitter experience...

try to relax, enjoy the weather, there is likely to be plenty of sitting around waiting for your flight etc... take music/book and be ready to book your next one!

Also did a tandem in New Zealand.

I generally just try not to think about "extreme" things to much before I do them. I just sort of zone out and go into auto pilot. Missus was a bag of nerves though.

Then we met our tandem partners: Mrs got strapped to this big Kiwi fella with a neck like my thigh and was instantly reassured. I got strapped to a tiny girl who I worried I might snap.

My initial freefall was a little interesting, our weight difference meant we did a few somersaults through the air before drag and the flying squirrel pose did its thing.

After that, all good. Freefall was basically like putting your face out the car window at 90mph, but quite enjoyable and we flew around a bit with the cameraman bloke which was cool.

Once the chute was open it was just a nice relaxing cruise around and look at the view. (I'd done static line jumps before so I knew what to expect at this point).

Landing was easy - they do it all for you and you just keep your feet up and land on your arse.

Me too. Set the world record for making the word "F*******************ck" last a VERY long time.

Soon as I landed, I wanted to go back up and do it again.

Enjoy!

There's a photo of me exiting the plane over the south island in NZ, quite clearly letting out a long expletive. Never had an adrenaline rush like it.

The one we used had 5 of us, including the pilot, and we were squashed in!

Never done a tandem but done a few solo descents. As someone else said, I'd have done more but for the British weather determinedly sitting at a wind speed just high enough to ground student skydivers whilst being just low enough to allow the experienced ones to fly. Which is really frustrating.

There's an adage, "those who do can't explain; those who don't can't understand" - which sounds like pretentious tossery but sums it up pretty well for me. There really is nothing else like it.

I'd love to do it but I've developed a dislike of heights, it woudl either kill me or cure me.

That US video clip is horrific. Anyone could see her harness was too loose, that instructor should be held to account for that sort of mistake surely?
