just logged onto our sky account and they are offering this...
i think she is being swooned by the m&s vouchers!
to be honest we only have the 'entertainment' package so would we really get many HD channels.
i guess HD is pointless if you dont have movies and sport?
cheers
ps- i guess we could just cancel the HD subscription after a year?
freesat HD?
(i dont have it btw...)
thats what i thought, we may aswell just get a secondhand hd box of ebay.

not at all. I don't have movies or sport, but I do have HD and it's well worth the extra tenner, IMO. You should see some of the BBC HD stuff, seeing is indeed believing.
There are plenty of channels in HD that are subscription-free. Besides, if you do want a movie in HD, you can always do Box Office

Most of the popular entertainment channels are also in HD nowadays.

There is no way you would go back to "normal" telly after watching HD for a year 😆
£120 for a new warrantied HD box, HD on an increasing number of channels. and and M&S voucher doesn't seem like a bad deal to me. The boxes are much nicer to use than the old ones.
Edit - I paid for the HD pack (discounted mind you) for a year to get one of these and my TV isn't even full HD.

You should note the box is only part of the Sky HD package, you will still need to pay the extra £10 odd for the HD channels, there are quite a few now.
So by the looks of the deal if you sign up to the HD package on sky which you would have to any way to get the HD content you will get a newer box and £100 of M&S vouchers.
Get the 1 Tb box if you can
Get the 1 Tb box if you can
Agreed.
I think all HD skyboxes are 1Tb - and that's a big deal if you plan on recording HD programmes as they take up lots of disc space
Sky is ace IMO (though haven't tried the other options) - pity it's run by ....
I rarely watch anything in SD these days except for BBC Four stuff.
Sky+HD box beats any other variant I've seen/ heard about. Good software and hardware. It just works.
cheers all.... think its turning in her favour 🙁
Scaredypants. Not according to Sky. Still an upgrade but worth it.

No they're not. I have one of each. Definitely get the big one.
The standard HD box has 500GB which is partitioned so you have 250GB available for your use(the other halve is for livepause and other sky bumpf)
250GB equates to roughly 180hrs recording time in SD or 60hrs HD.
The Terrabyte box actually has approx 750hrs of SD recording available.
Other than the larger harddrive and a slightly different case they are identical internally (I'm a Sky engineer and have had both in pieces to compare)
To be honest you need to be a hardcore recorder to actually need the higher capacity box.
Check the small print on that ad,as although it says free install(as you will be fitting it yourself)you may get charged upto £30 for a courier to deliver the box.
One other bonus if you do go for the HD box is if you have Sky broadband you can then get your router connected to it and you will then be able to stream content to your box (Anytime+),obviously this isnt available on your existing box or if you dont have Sky broadband.
All in all its a good deal when you factor the vouchers in too.
oh, maybe I put the Tb disc in ours myself 😳
Check quidco first, they usually have loads of Sky offers on the go.
The first few times you watch stuff in HD you'll be slightly underwhelmed.
Then you'll start to notice how some things look "better".
Then you'll pop round to your mates house and watch standard definition on a good TV and realise that HD is actually pretty darn good.
Eventually, you'll be gutted when a programme is not shown in HD, thinking to yourself "what's the point in going to all that effort to make a TV show and not show it to me in all it's glory!!!??? 😀
It's definitely worth it for £10 a month, but don't expect it to knock you off your feet instantly.
"Sky+HD box beats any other variant I've seen/ heard about. Good software and hardware. It just works. "
The software has one major flaw. I've used a free sat box which will tell you if your watching a standard channel and ask if you want to switch to the HD variant. Also on Sky HD, you have to search for BBC1 HD etc etc it doesnt flow that Channel 101 is BBC HD if you have an HD box, where as on Freesat it does.
I paid £5 for 6 months for my HD box, as I told Sky I was going to leave them. That was resonable value as it worked out cheaper than a Freesat box. Come next year though I wont be renewing Sky HD subscription, I'll just use the free HD channels.
^^^^
That is quite a useful feature which the Sky+ HD box lacks. You can always go into the EPG and filter by HD channels, but it certainly isn't as intuitive as that.
HD programmes look great. The Masters looks wonderful in HD and I even think that Gardeners World can look pretty cool at times 😳
