Right, the quest for the small automatic runaround currently has this as the front runner, in DSG auto flavour. In fact, it's currently the only contender due to various engine/autobox/switch position issues - oh, the joys of a disabled wife.....

I was pleasantly surprised on a test drive at how perky the little engine is, and it's official fuel figures look good, but as part of the online research I thought I'd consult the Hive mind.

We know about the DSG bit as we have an Octavia estate already (livin' the STW dream!) but if anyone can offer experience of living with either the current Fabia or the engine in one of the other VAG cars, it would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

I have a 105 bhp 1.2 TSI engine in my Roomster. I'm really impressed with the engine - the car too. It feels surprisingly powerful at lower revs and fuel efficient for a petrol engine - I get 45 to 50mpg.

Thanks for that mudshark - we really liked the Roomster when we test drove one, and then we worked out it's only a foot shorter than the Octavia so not as "small" as we had thought!

I've got the 1.2 with the DSG in a Yeti, great little engine, although dragging around the Yeti's body the mpg drops a bit, 35ish. Still quite quite nippy though 😉 and very refined,
Mark.

Bloke at work has a manual 1.2 tsi Yeti. He likes it & from the few times I've been in it, it definitely feels like it has enough go.

My wife has a Fabia with that engine/box combo . We bought it ,new , 10,000 miles ago . Performance is pretty good & it gives around 45mpg overall . The DSG box is very good although the changes are not as smooth as with ny larger-capacity diesel.
Also , the estate body style is a much better load / dog carrier ,
