Hi y'all,
I'm fed up of the grandson making me look like a woose..(style 'effette mincing') has anyone done any of the riding tuition courses.
They look expensive, until you consider that's someone's time you are buying..so what do you get for your money..really?
Any personal recommendations in the North of England area?
Ed Oxley - In my experience - excellent
Kate & Ian Potter (AQR) - ditto (altho they don't spend that much time in UK)
Heard "mixed" feedback about Llandgla skills courses
AQR do skills courses in Sherwood Pines. Even at a decent ability level, the "basic" one made a massive improvement to my riding - just polished things up. They're pretty cheap too!
Shame you're not down South. Jedi is the man!
Thanks for the suggestions,
perhaps I should have said 'the borders' tho..Wales hardly counts as North of England from where we are (The Cheviots)
I've had a few days' coaching with Mark Wilcox here, he might be closer to you...

Give him a bell and have a chat, he's very flexible and really good at fixing bad habits/teaching better ones. Very reasonable prices too.
Andy Gale has just started doing coaching at Kielder. Having ridden with him in Spain, France and around the UK, I can say he'll help your riding too.
Alternatively a week with Switchbacks XC MTB Holidays in Spain transformed my trail riding.

Ooops.... apologies!
Emmy(MBSC) has done lots of courses for MMB club members now and all have been received very positively.
southern yeti,
thank you for saying so 🙂
Paul Jones at Llandegla - good teacher and experienced, I have another private session with him soon, got a lot of trust in him.
AQR were great value, Paul who coaches with them is excellent as is Ian and Kate (note: I wasn't coached by kate but my wife was).
My wife went with Cyclewise (when I was injured) and thought Richard was excellent, mind you he was best man for a friend of ours who is also a good mountain biking coach so possible bias (but the wife is picky about coaching).
Also Clive Forth is good, picked up a couple of great cornering tips and some original thoughts on riding from him in about 50 mins of riding and 10 mins of conversation when a friend who knows him suggested I tagged along for a social ride. I'm planning to have a proper coaching session with him if I ever get properly fit.
Also based on reputation and having crossed paths with Ed-O when he's been leading other groups the wife and I are having a days riding/coaching around Calderdale with him.
Went along on the basic skills day with AQR to help the wife enjoy her biking more. Very good fun and a great place to start.
I'm booked on with Ed-o for a 2dayer in Aug so watch this space...
http://www.getmountainbiking.co.uk/ are good. Most of their courses are down south compared to where you are, but their advanced course is in Yorkshire if that's the sort of thing you're looking for 🙂
+1 for Ed at great rock
uk bike skills - jedi is an ace coach. 🙂
