My 8 year old wants a skateboard for his birthday, which we've sorted. Can anyone please recommend some decent pads that aren't too expensive?

I've seen these with a quick google, they look ok to me...?

I was in Sportsdirect the other day (I know) and they had sets of No Fear ones (knee, elbow and wrist) for £10. Seemed decent enough. Here's a link

Either the No Fear or Airwalk ones ought to be more than good enough. Most kids don't bother, and when I started skating all we had were cloth-covered foam ice-hockey pads.
