Yet another bike carrying car question.
Are either the Volvo C30 or Golf 3dr going to be remotely practical for bike carrying duties?
Can you get a standard(-ish) bike bag (130cm x 83cm high x 25cm wide)in the back of them with the rear seats down?
Thanks all.

The C30 is a great car. Rock solid mechanically.

Its also quite big inside.

However the one negative I can think of is that the shape of the boot lip/opening does prevent you from getting certain things in easily.

Roof rack is probably the way to go on the C30.

Tow bar makes any car practical for carrying bikes.

Can't speak for the 3 dr, but two bikes go into the Mk4 golf 5 dr with the front wheels off no problem. Seats down, fling em in. I can't see the newer models being hugely different, and the opening is a bit more of a normal shape than the c30.

I had a 3 dr MK4 golf two road bikes in the back with the front wheels off every weekend for 6 years, never felt it was a grind. Was a lot easier with two people putting them in.

Just a thought, but if you're buying 2nd hand, the 8th generation Honda Civic (2006-2011) is a superb bike carrying car. Acres of space internally (particularly with the magic seats folded flat), to the extent that I could get my XL Norco in without removing wheels.

Great cars to drive too. The 2.2 diesel is an excellent engine with good torque and acceleration, particularly in the all important mid-range for overtaking and the like. They are hyper reliable and just go on and on and on. Reluctantly sold mine for an estate (kids + dog) and miss it loads
