single mattress upgrade??

We've got an old single bed which my nephews used to sleep in when they were little. One of them is now 23 and as big as me and staying here for Xmas. The current mattress is just rubbish cheap soft etc.

With not having kids, I've not had to upgrade single beds before. So what's the best way to improve the sleeping quality for an adult in a single bed? Mattress topper, new mattress etc.?

It's just for occasional visitors so I don't want to spend too much.

Thanks

Personally I reckon if you're not spending a lot of money foam mattresses are much more comfortable than cheap traditional spring mattresses at the same price point

Get thee to IKEA, it won’t be at all busy. But you can offset the pain by eating your body weight in dirty, slutty meatballs and hotdogs.

I got a refurbed Simba one from eBay. Cost more than a foam mattress from Ikea but for a cheapish mattress it's pretty good and more comfortable than the Ikea foam ones imo.

Holy thread resurrection Batman!

My brother's family had COVID and didn't come for Xmas last year so I didn't buy new mattresses.

Has anyone bought a single mattress recently that they can recommend for large teenagers up to 75kg?

Or should I just go to IKEA?

Cheapish foam mattress topper will probably make enough of a difference on a bed that doesn't get used much.

EDIT: Ah, if mattress only, Ikea as above.

For occasional use, decide on budget and pick the nearest match?

I'd recommend one of the pocket sprung ones, you'd not regret it but may be more than what you plan to spend

Cheap foam mattress. At the lowest price point they are better than springs. We bought a double for about £200 and it’s not far off the Tempur one we have on another bed that cost 10x more. You don’t get that economy with springs.
