Yep looking forward to S3 of ld+r. Really enjoyed the first two series. Thanks for the heads up.
you look back at TNG, DS9, Enterprise, etc and you had real structure, Star Fleet looked like an actual goal that had taken centuries to work towards for mankind
I loved TNG because of the intelligent writing and grown up themes. I teach philosophy at high school and tell pupils to check out TNG if they want to get a grounding in some major philosophical themes in an entertaining fashion.
Like all the best sci-fi the technological bells and whistles aren't the focus, they're just a mirror to reflect human nature.
The Expanse though, that was well written
hmmmm. Reading the books currently and they're pretty plulpy. The TV series is worse IMO.
Star Trek Discovery just went a bit weird, no matter what Burnham did, it always worked, and her back story was even more annoying, being better than Spock before Spock.
It shared quite a few problems with the film reboots. Neither Burnham nor Kirk should have got anywhere near a position of authority on a massive starship, they're both mutineers!
Picard S2, hmm. Bit of a muddle, that. S1 was ok I guess. S2 was daft and not particularly inspired. Another Borg queen, round the sun, time travel, don't upset the future, that's my grandma. I kept expecting Data to tell us the Jupiter mission to required one point twenty one gigawatts to be directed into the launch pad.
I’ve basically resigned to the fact that Star Trek just isn’t worth bothering with anymore.
It's now sci-fi porridge. Unchallenging, bland, action sequence filler, with little meaning or direction. That said.
Lower Decks is the best Star Trek since TNG.
On balance of probability, Westworld will be naff. S2, S3, er, hmm, very slick but all very meh. Not a patch on S1. Getting a good fourth season seems optimistic.
Looking forward to Orville and The Boys. If they can stay on the boil for another season that would be great.
The Expanse though, that was well written

Agreed. They are well-written in am easily readable, lets keep the action moving type way, which reminded me of GRRM. (Although nothing as awful as some of his writing. A horse 'that was trained good', being one of my favourites.) Nothing wrong with that style of writing but it's not well written per se.
Lower Decks is the best Star Trek since TNG.
...
Looking forward to Orville and The Boys.
The Orville is the best Star Trek since TNG.
I was going to sack off Prime to cut costs until you mentioned Season Three of The Boys is about to drop, damn you. Best thing on TV (all of it, everywhere).
Peacemaker is pretty good too.
which reminded me of GRRM.
I think both the writers of the Expanse series are his assistants, aren't they? (or at least one of them is)
The Orville is the best Star Trek since TNG.
Yeah, I'll grant you that one.
Lower Decks is the best Star Trek since The Orville.
The expanse books read like a screenplay, so it seemed right they ended up on TV and yes very pulpy but fun & dynamic (unlike Picard)
Westworld could be good, but I worry itll suck
The Boys, I have high hopes for!
Netflix "The Silent Sea" had a great set and space-suit design, an intriguing story... but i couldn't stay awake! Worth a look though.
Umbrella Academy S3 at end of June also
Yep, I enjoyed that was a different.
Peacemaker is pretty good too.
The title dance is fantastic as well,I’d say 🙂
In fairness Peacemaker is actually really good,if someone said they were using his character for a spin off you’d expect it to be er shite.
Yep Discovery wasn’t ruined by being woke,it was ruined by the annoying characters, always reminded me of Wesley crusher(die die die).
+ the stories ended up a bit er shite and always saving the world/galaxy.
Strange New Worlds is more of the same ol' star trek space soap.
Love, Death and Robots is fantastic and I can’t wait to watch it. Westworld started well but I just couldn’t grasp the character change for the man in black. From what he was to what he became just seemed wrong and an unrealistic character arc. Star Trek is just a soap opera in space with very unimaginative aliens.
Umbrella Academy and The Boys should be great. Does anybody know how to watch Peacemaker in the UK please?
I was enjoying Picard until the last couple of episodes of season 2 where it started to look increasingly like it was put together mostly for the benefit of a much loved lead actor.
L,d&r is looking terrific - ta for the recommendation. Have also snagged for all mankind and umbrella academy.
late august... for more star wars
and wtf happened to stranger things ? jocks vs nerds vs prom queens vs demons please no more teen agnst! yeah the monsters are scary but not half as scary as high school.... dismal. And why do the pupils look older than the teachers is there some kind of premature aging going on ?
Anyone watched Tales from the Loop? Worth a watch IMO.
But I did enjoy Picard, Discovery, Expanse, Altered Carbon, and that recent one with the time travel hole in the ground on a ranch. It's just entertainment of my favourite kind, sci-fi. I pretty much watch most sci fi and enjoy it (but not Marvel/DC shite though thank you, and steered clear of star wars over the past few years too). I don't get people who hold things like TNG DS9 on a pedestal above more recent Star Trek - it's always been a guilty pleasure and has always had it's stupid moments.
Season 1 of Halo has been entertaining me.
I had low expectations. It was entertaining.
and that recent one with the time travel hole in the ground on a ranch
Palm Springs?
but not Marvel/DC shite though thank you
Coming to the end of our Disney$+ offer. Kids love the Marvel stuff. Bad guys turn up, good guys stop them, thigs explode. Mostly unchallenging stuff with lots of effects. Star Wars is the same.
That said, they do have the odd standout thing. Loki was good. First season of Legion.
DS9 on a pedestal above
DS9 had some proper cheesey moments & filler, but, it had an engaging, well written long term story arc (changelings, dominion war, bajor) that were written as a whole and worked out across all 6, 25 episode series.
Even on today's 'bigger than Hollywood' TV series that is very rare.
DS9 is probably my favourite franchise of all the Treks. But the first ~two seasons were utter bilge.
Another thank you to the various people who've recommended Love, Death and Robots - seen four episodes so far, and they've all been excellent. A nice mix of SF, fantasy and horror.
and wtf happened to stranger things ? jocks vs nerds vs prom queens vs demons please no more teen agnst!
It has always been like this though, from the first death in season One. It's classic 80's shlock horror, remade for the modern audience. It makes no excuses to be anything else. They even self reference it: see; Robert Englund making guest appearances, and mentioning films in the dialogue like: Wargames and Nightmare on Elm Street....
I gave up on Outer Range (rancher time travel thing). These streaming services have way too much high budget but straight-to-video content, slowly plotted to try and keep you watching but, ultimately, of no significance. Three episodes in on Night Sky and that's a bit more promising.
The first three seasons of The Expanse had interesting ideas, but the final one in particular was a grim plod to an unsatisfactory ending.
I've enjoyed both series of Picard and what I've seen so far of Discovery (I'm part way through series 2). Love Lower Decks too.
I should also say that I really enjoyed Enterprise (probably my favourite Star Trek of all of them in fact). I even liked the theme song, which I suspect puts me in a small minority.
Only Star Trek I really can't stand are the new reboot films (all three of them). I watched them because they are Star Trek but what utter tosh and drivel.

Nope, I thought Enterprise was consistently decent (and liked the theme tune). I prefer it to Voyager (best theme sequence, though), and large chunks of NG.
Liked the first Star Trek reboot, second one was OK, third one was terrible!
Discovery only really goes to shit in S3, IMO. Such a wasted opportunity.

They're all three generic action franchise films with some Star Trek wallpaper hastily wapped on top.
The latest Discovery is just awful. Strange New Worlds is bloody great. Book of Boba Fett sucked...Kenobi (so far)...brilliant. Stranger Things S4...Wow, especially after the rubbish S3. If that scene at the end of episode 4 doesn't give you goosebumps then you're virtually braindead Picard Series 1 great. Series 2....OMG what happened, I think I fell asleep. New Westworld coming up...ooh yes please. The Expanse was the best of the lot. As for Marvel...well they're all great aren't they?
If you want a right laugh....The Boys is very dark and Doom Patrol is just a piss take hilarious.

MrsKenny's take on JJ Abrams and the new films was "He's made fun and entertaining films that lots of people will enjoy......and that's why sad Star Trek fans like you hate them".
She probably has a point.
I really liked "Tribes of Europa" on Netflix a while back. its mostly in german so you have to actually concentrate to watch it (unless youre fluent in german) and S1 ended on a cliffhanger, so I want to know what happens next!
Whats dissappointed me are the new Marvel V shows (Hawkeye, Falon) as they feel much less developed than the Netflix series'. Moon Knight was good, but I just think 6 episodes is too short to do properly developed story telling.
Mind you Iron Fist was awful, until the second half of the second season...
OK, it's fantasy and not science fiction, but the Sandman's coming 🙂
^ That pic looks like an 80s Lloyd Cole video. 😀
I was wandering around part of the set where they shot some of the externals for Sandman.
Coming across a burnt out village with charred corpse bits even when it is obviously a film set is a bit weird at twilight.
Just realised Ms. Marvel starts today.
Too much happening!!!!
Halo is going down well - on Ep9.
Night Sky, with JK Simmons and Sissy Spacek was pretty good. Not full on sci-fi but there is an other worldly story element.
Night Sky, with JK Simmons and Sissy Spacek was pretty good.
It starts slow but picks up from ep3. I'm up to ep7, seems to have set everything up for a big finale.
I don't remember ever seeing this episode!?
Westworld S4 seems decent so far. Obviously early days, but interesting to see where it goes.
S3 was a bit of a disappointment, it was a transitional bit, but left me feeling a little underwhelmed.
the aesthetics though are very good.
Ms Marvel - pish - could have been so much better. marvel TV shows have been pretty poor for the most part.
Obi wan - pretty good apart from the whole obi-wan weakness crap.
The boys - hilarious.
Peacemaker - hilarious
Brave new worlds - pretty decent show, good actors and story.
Discovery - pish - every line seems to be some sort of statement and story lines just crap.
Orville - pretty good so far.
Bobba fett - enjoyed it
Mandalorian S2 - bit weak hopefully better in S3.
Moon knight - pretty weak and rubbish towards the end.
Andor - looks pish
She-hulk - hopefully won't be woke crap but probably will be.
