Just been for a lovely drive in the hills, it turns out there is no limit to the number of handbrake turns I can do without getting bored. Won't be much snow left in the morning though I think

A disappointing inch and a bit by the Pentlands this morning, though chuffing cold, some drifting by the roads though. Most hazardous part of commute was the now pedestrianised sections of George Street as there's no grit! Will be interesting to see how long it hangs around for, I think it's forecast to stay cold for the next week or so.

Well last night's BBC report (repeated this morning at 05:55) was for snow here in the Shandy South. There was none.
I found this strangely dissapponting, having psyched myself up for a real winter commute...
I can confirm there is snow on Baildon moor. Sod it, I'm still going out for a ride, and taking my camera.

It looks like there was a terrible icing sugar accident in Sheffield.
Very light sprinkling on my commute but lots of sheet ice once off the main roads had me tripoding. Saw a bloke drinking vodka at 8am on his way to work.
Nice little layer in Skipton. Saw Jupiter really clearly this morning as well. Ace.

A few crusty bits on my car this morning in Cardiff, but plenty of people driving around (presumably down from the Valleys) with a couple of inches on.
update from Baildon (below the moor). a slight dusting on the cars that haven't been moved, and on the pavements. roads are clear and the grass in the small park opposite is visible

Just woke up as our bedroom seemed unusually bright, that'll be down to all the white stuff outside then! Belper in Derbyshire if you cared!
Same in sunny Barnsley,wifey is a district nurse on nights,don't think she'll get up our street this morning.

There's a pitiful damp dusting in Bradford.
Proper deep drifts over the tops past Rawtenstall and Crawshawbooth. And its still coming down really hard. Might have to do strategic dash for home, and work from there for the afternoon. That definitely won't result in me just going out for a play on the bike, of course. 😉

@Graham, indeed people don't understand you have to clear the bonnet and roof as well. People leave snow on the roof then it flies off in a big icy lump to smash into the car behind.

The worrying thing is that (according to the story and video) the driver continued to drive like that, in the outside lane over the motorway at 50mph+, making no attempt to pull over and sort it out.

Anybody in the Tweed Valley able to give a snow report ? I am in Edinburgh, staring out my office window, wondering if I should make a break for it. Hate getting stuck in traffic in the snow.

Mild,wet and windy.
Snawin in Edinburgh west but not lying. This totally offends me, it's a waste of a precious resource, it's like throwing coal in a fireplace, never lighting it, then throwing it in the bin. But maybe it's lying higher (the snow line is often just at the bottom of my road)
raining here in Glasgow but Met office has just pushed the yellow up to amber for the drive home 🙂

Beautiful day so far in the east (Melrose way) but I've just been instructed to cancell a meeting in Peebles as we are moving to Amber weather alert which means that we won't absolutely, definately die to death, but it is possible that we will suffer icey snow filled terror to the point of near death.

yeah, it was a tad windy earlier. snow is still falling and starting to settle on the grass but not yet on the roads, but is now swirling rather than sideways.
tonight's trip to Queensbury should be interesting...
Sideways snow here in tweed valley. Might take a while to stick the ground still quite wet.
Hope Valley has a good covering of snow.
