Croft Trail (5km of singletrack in a park on the edge of Swindon).

Rides most weekends plus trail ride every Friday night at 7:30pm followed by the pub.

I lived in Stanford in the Vale (few miles east of Shrivenham)when I started on MTBs in the early 90s - and the riding was rubbish locally (clue's in the name I suppose). The Ridgeway was OK and there's some good trails on the Wiltshire Downs.

Glad I moved back to Devon though ๐Ÿ™‚

There's loads of byways and bridleways on the north Wessex Downs south of Swindon but none of it is particularly challenging. You can certainly put together a long ride with some nice scenery and a bit of a wilderness feel. Just don't expect technical singletrack. Do expect lots of mud at this time of year.

Have a look at the Marlborough Downs ride report on the MTB Swindon site for what to expect just now.

I lived just outside Swindon near to the Ridgeway and alas there is loads of riding but not very challenging

Now my stomping ground is the Quantocks and its ACE

We're linking together some of the best bits for the Prospect Big Bike Ride 2012 (fund raising event for local charity).
