You don't want him to resign - as someone pointed out, it would allow him an out. Everybody rushes around doing each others knees in a rush to the top, including the opposition, then Bojo steps over the bodies, announces he 'unresigns' and then you are back where you started except he has a majority and the opposition is in a shambles. No thanks.

If he resigns (not as Leader of the tories but as government and PM) and the opposition is unable to come up with a workable coalition and leader, (what are the chances, really?) then he gets his election. The opposition can't stop him asking the Queen to get them to try to form a government and the chances of them avoiding an election if that happens are slim to none

I think he will resign once he realises that he has no options other than to resign as PM or go and ask for an extension.
What would happen if he were to resign at the last possible minute before "the letter" was due? (Say 20th Oct). Could/would the duty of making the request default to someone else, or could there be a no-deal exit while the fallout from the resignation dealt with? (e.g. allowing the 14 day VNC deadline, for a successor to emerge, to pass)

No way, no way will Boris resign. That is absolutely not what he is about. Resigning infers some semblance of guilt or morality. Not going to even mention a modicum of humility.
He has literally nothing to lose now by carrying on and absolutely everything to gain.
The real concern is that a few months from now he may well be back on the winning side.

If only there was a totting up process like driving, or yellow cards in football for persistent misconduct. In isolation maybe none of them are enough but to tell him that's the n-teenth lie he's told now and enough's enough would be tempting.

He should resign but won’t. He will manage to dump us out of the EU on October 31. His self-image will remain untarnished to his dying day. The country will suffer but he will do just fine. IMO.
He's doing exactly what he was meant to do - make an absolute hash of things and ultimately ensure that we don't leave the EU. Those of you who think otherwise are living in cloud cuckoo land (and are probably the same STW members who were so sure we were leaving back in April).
