Dust? Where do you live?

We might manage a few days of dust in about 8 months time but that will be all.

Happy New year!

We're having a little celebration today to welcome in the next 365 days.

No sacrificial offerings. Venison stew and booze only.

And cake

God it feels good to be starting a new year

Christmas day will be 40c and I'm cooking a roast. Bahaha.....Still, going to the beach on Chrissy morning is a great way to cool down!

Having just been wading through icy water on an exploratory ride locally, I'm looking forward to the end of winter...

Edit: Sorry wrong thread. I feel like winter hasn't really got going yet. Was saying to Mrs jeffl last night that we've not had any snow this seasone yet. Normally we get a bit before Christmas Day.
But I'm expecting it to get colder before it gets drier, something about riding in the snow that is a good laugh.

But yeah bring on the sun and dust of summer.

So am I (areas of the Somerset Levels I ride are currently under water).

However, in my experience, the irony here is that these threads tend to be harbingers of the worst conditions of the Winter being just around the corner.

Cracking ride on the ridgeway yesterday, finishing off at sunset in Avebury (no druids, I expect they're out today though).

Astrological winter only starts today, meteorological winter began at the start of December.

We've had a few frosts but not many. A flurry of snow. It feels relatively mild so far but it's still a very long way from now til spring

Certainly the models I've been looking at seem to be moving towards a period of colder weather after Christmas and especially after New Year, I'm keeping a close eye on this as I've a week booked in Coniston in early Jan!

A couple of adults where Mrs dB works didn't know there was such a thing as the days getting longer after 21st Dec / winter solstice 🤨 but yes been very mild so far...

Either I never knew until recent years, or I forgot, that the latest sunrise isn't until around 31st December here in Southampton (early Jan further north?) .

While the earliest sunset was around 12th December here on the south coast.

12/12 0759-1600

21/12 0803-1559

31/12 0808-1612

Bring on the longer days, once again like the last few since my last work shift, I've turned into a bit of a hermit since early November... Managed a single ebike ride last weekend! 😲

Been incredibly mild by and large since October albeit a bit wet/windy, but things are due to get a bit more wintery this week, may need to think about fitting the ice spike tyres if I'm brave enough to leave the flat.

The level of ignorance shown by many adults about such regular phenomena never ceases to amaze me! 🤦🏼‍♂️

I am not sure if this link will work, it's what I have saved as a bookmark, it's one of the models I look at regularly,

https://www.wxcharts.com/?dataset=ecmwf_op&region=europe&element=overview&run=12&dtg=2026-01-05T12%3A00%3A00Z&meteoModel=ecop&ensModel=eceps&chartRun=0&lat=51.5&lon=-0.25

WX Charts also has others (eg GFS) as well as the ECMWF model, and it stretches for about two weeks in advance (so ending Monday 5 Jan at the mo), and pretty much changes every day but it amuses me.

The GFS model was showing colder weather for the UK than ECMWF last time I looked.
