I'm thinking of selling a broken Apple Powerbook as repairs on the 'bay.
Will it get bought up and shipped to some bloke in a shed in nigeria where they'll extract my bank details and leave me a penniless twunt ...
... or am I paranoid?
Just take the hard drive out first?
...or depending on how broken it is, run d-ban on it first.
+1 for DBAN (does it work on Macs?)

You can go into Disk Utility and select your HD, Erase > Security Options.
Choosing the strongest one will overwrite your HD so as to make any kind of data recovery impossible.
The chances are probably slim that they would recover anything to use against you but I certainly wouldn't risk it if I had personal info on there.
Removing the HDD from a powerbook is not difficult you need approx 20-30 minutes and some precision screwdrivers and allen keys. Just lay the screws out so you remember which ones go where on reassembly - there are a few guides on the net: find one.
Just remember to mention that it's broken in the advert or you might end up like Amir Tofangsazan!
