Try www.fortercastle.com up Glen Isla central Scotland and www.rafting.co.uk/tay1.htm for anything white water.

If you want remote Kinloch Castle, Rum is the answer. However, the accommodation is a bit ropey and you will struggle with day trips and white water rafting - loads of biking potential though.

Nae Limits between Dunkeld and Pitlochry is good for rafting on the Tay.

Another decent castle alternative would be Saddell Castle on the Mull of Kintyre.

Sorry this lot isn't very joined up.

As a generic point, you should consider booking VERY early. Not only are we expecting many more "stay at home" visitors this summer due to the Credit Crunch and the currency exchange rates, the Scottish Govt. is currently promoting 2009 as The Year of Homecoming, reaching out across the globe to encourage the diaspora to visit - partly related to Burns' 250th. Bookings seem to be well up on this time last year.

Easy access to 7Stanes, Drumlanrigg, Lakes, Howgills. No rafting unfortunately but some quad biking nearby

For white water rafting, check out www.aceadventures.co.uk on the river Findhorn. Proper white water! (Grade 5 in places).

I worked on a film at Ardkinglas House recently, very very nice, and I know you can stay there, nice people that run the place too. Home ,apparently, to the tallest tree in Europe. Not a castle, but has castle stylings. Its not as old as it first seems, its actually from from the early 1900s, so its a bit more homely and comfortable than you'd expect. The detailing in the place is astounding.

Its near Inveraray so you've got Ardgarten to the south for straightford, if hilly cycling.
