So I am going to be potentially offered double the money to go to the Netherlands. The recruiter put me in touch with an umbrella company that seems dodgey to me. I haven't been offered a role yet - but the umbrella company is asking me to sign a contract already. They have given me a salary simulation that seems ridiculous, I know taxes are high in the Netherlands but this is way off all of the tax calculators I have used. It's my understanding that the Netherlands pays employees holiday allowance (which is kind of a statutory yearly bonus) and a transition bonus (which is essentially **** off money from what I understand). The umbrella company wants to deduct both these from my pay, to then pay it back to me at the end of my contract.

Scammy? Yay or nay? Is this a way of not having to pay everything they would owe me under the Dutch system?

13th month pay was optional when I was working there - Dutch companies did it but not many others.

Ask another umbrella for a simulation.

I once went for an interview at a small company with locked gates and has hard to get into.had to wait 30 minutes in the interview room for the person to turn up and was more interested in sussing me out than the job or my experience.the interviewer was very cagey about what they did and how they went about it and hardly spoke.pretty sure it was an out of town boiler room company.that means they sell fake shares to investors.i was escorted off the ground by the interviewer who kept silent the whole way.now I know security can be tight in the sector but it was all very odd and the one other person I met seemed quite paranoid and wasnt comfortable with me being there.

Imo all umbrella companies are scams. Is there a financial relationship between the recruiter and the umbrella? Do you have to go through an umbrella or can you diy etc?

Has the increased rate been confirmed by Dutch employer?
Is contract covered by Dutch/EU law?
Will payments be in EU or £?
Do you have option of ltd co?
Is recruiter reputable?
Is it mandated - by employer - to use an umbrella?
Tell recruiter you will either appoint your own umbrella or ltd co; if they say you can't, walk away.
