Son had to reset phone, put in a stupidly long screen lock password for after swiping up and instantly forgot it, can't power off phone without password to try the solution Tesco mobile suggested. Any suggestions as to how to get phone working, Tesco chat wanted to book a repair for technician to collect, surely there must be a way to sort it

Try recovery mode https://www.hardreset.info/devices/samsung/samsung-galaxy-a21/recovery-mode/ Might need to have it switched off though... otherwise just remembered if he has a samsung account I think you can remove passcode remotely through the samsung site, but needs to have signed in on the phone to the samsung account.
