Samsung flog a few other items too, TV's comps home appliances camera's etc
they spend a lot flogging Android phones! More than Coca-Cola!
Why would Coca Cola want to spend money flogging Android phones?
Or
Samsung spend more flogging phones than flogging Coca Cola?
Inaccurate conclusions from inappropriate data - who'd a thunk it?
Samsung make a lot more than mobile phones.
I see it's also 'estimated' so could be less but they don't know.

True, but the big jump in the last few years is probably the Galaxy as the rest of their product range hasn't jumped as much in terms of % sales increase.
Either way, it's still a huge spend.....
I wonder how it compares to Sony and Apple? I bet Apple is considerably higher.
Yup they do:
According to its annual filing, Apple spent $933 million on advertising last year, $691 million in 2010, and $501 million in 2009. Its total sales those years were $108.249 billion, $65.225 billion and $42.905 billion.
from Forbes....

apple as the first comp listed on the chart.....
A lot of that goes on trade shows as they always make a point of having the biggest stand, I think next weeks CES show (Las Vegas) they have one the size of a footbal field!
Samsung is basically S Korea plc is it not? They do everything from shipbuilding to pharmaceuticals. A quasi-national conglomerate like that must operate along different lines and principles to most other companies.
Remember Apple has a huge unpaid army of fanboi's to do a lot of it's advertising for it too. 😉

They are only one of chaebols, they are not at all nationalised but benefit from basically unlimited state underwriting.
Samsung are out to dominate the indusry and steal a big chunk of Apple's market share. Apple have been very lucky (and smart) in the last decade or so, but they will have to move much quicker now - which they show every intention of doing - but will they be quick enough?
Would this also not have something to do with them being an Olympic sponsor?

Their TVs have gone from a cheap rubbish budget brand to one the best you can get if not the current best.

The best sort of advertising is from satisfied customers. Any fuel kno that.
