[Closed] Salon skincare treatments for men - anyone tried it and willing to admit?

I'm hopefully getting married at some point next year which means that for once I may actually feature in some photographs.

I am obviously aware that some form of haircut will be required in the week prior to the ceremony... I have succumbed to getting some contact lenses... but I'm curious as to what dark magic a beautician might be able to work on my skin. Is it worth it? I don't want to end up looking like Rylan Clarke. I just want to look like me - but on a really good day and feel a bit more refreshed.

What was your experience?

So when you say 'salon skincare treatments' you mean make-up ?

I've never had any skin treatments (very lucky with my skin, compared to my poor wee brother who had problems with his for 20 years or so), but one of my close friends had a facial treatment the day before his wedding....don't do it close to the big day!

His skin flared up really badly and he looked terrible. It settled down the next day, but he really regrets having gone for the treatment so close to the wedding day.

Never been to a salon but I do look after my skin. Good facial wash, moisturised every day for the last 20+ years. Managed to maintain my boyish good looks ๐Ÿ˜‰

Not ashamed to admit that I'm a daily Nivea user... Often get complimented on my skin, so it clearly works. Just turned 40, and most of my contemporaries have faces like a cold scrotum.

For the big day, it might be worth experimenting with a tinted moisturiser (unless it's summer in which case you should have a bit of colour), but I doubt any salon treatment would give instant noticeable results.

I think you only really benefit if you have a long-term routine.

Am I the last man left?

All this face cream and salons and beard oil. I was away with a load of lads on a biking weekend and they were all rubbing in face cream and lotions - they are not your usual IT lot either, a plumber, landscape gardener, ex-miner, ex-steelworker (ok they are both IT contractors now..)

Just of out from me cave now to club an antelope to death for lunch

If you been made to change to contact, do you have panda eyes? Then maybe... my passport photo (no glasses) is well dodgy...

I must admit I use moisturiser - it's the Boots Basic Range stuff, unscented and plain boring. I only use it because I suffer from an insanely dry skin on my face and I scratch my face off otherwise.

I'm dead butch and everything but in winter when I shave and then cycle into work, my face is red raw when I get in so I've started putting some moisturiser on before I leave the house. Only in winter mind and only when I've shaved.

I drag my testicles along the tarmac to make up for being a jessie.

Sorry.

Surely you want to look bad and fat on your wedding day so that you age well?

I'm going with the theory that I'd wash and service my bike before a big trip so my boat-race probably deserves an iterim overhaul. I'm willing to believe that the difference between rinsing it in the sink and having it looked at by a professional might be the equivalent of cleaning your chain with a rag versus an ultrasonic bath - possible overkill, but at least you know it's been done thoroughly.
