Need to upgrade my basic Dunlop steel toe capped wellies (they were bought as a quick/cheap make do)
Requirements are
Steel toecap (that doesn't dig in to top of foot) maybe a bit more protection along top of foot
Good for walking in, especially on steep ground
Good support for walking on steep ground
Winter coming so neoprene/warm
Can stomp a spade/fork in to the ground without jarring foot
Not too heavy
Thanks!
Take a look at the fancier Dunlop's ones. (Purofort or purofort+)
I've spent £100's on wellies over the last few years (wear them a lot) and I still rate Dunlop wellies for comfort but they do wear out quick (they gripnwell though).
Mole valley farmers sell them online.
Buckler buckbootz. Not cheap, though.
As above - Buckler Buckbootz. For site work/warmth Bogs Ranchers are even better, but by god they are heavy - and £125
I saw the buck boots name and thought they were a spin off from muck boots ?
Thanks for recommendations so far
Anymore?
I used to have a pair of Dunlop Purofort Thermo Plus wellies and they were the comfiest, warmest things I've ever put my feet inside. Rubbish for driving as you can't feel what's under your feet but could happily stand in ice cold water all day long without getting cold. Used throughout winter for general labouring on a cold, exposed building site in wildest Wales
How about a pair of riggers?
Steel toe, fleece lined, tough soles, waterproof, walked many winter miles round the Black Mountains in mine 🙂
Think mine cost me £20 from screwfix.
I give wellies a pretty tough time and personally I've not found better than the £15 Dunlop steels. I know they can be a bit heavy but grip, durability and comfort imho is proper good value. There are two types of their cheapys I've found. Green and black. The blacks are better. They're the builder style ones and have a thicker strip of rubber over the bridge of your foot. Plus they're ribbed for extra.......
I ve tried the Purofoot but was bitterly disappointed. Get the size right and they're very comfy but found the grip unpredictable and scary and they split fairly quickly. Most other steels are out of my price range. If I get 6 months out of a pair I'm happy.
As for warmth, I find socks and socketts are better for versatility. Size up, there's room for layers in the winter and air movement in the summer
