I am recently-ish single after 13 years(no kids),and instead of going to parents for the usual chritmas dinner, and awkward silences and questions(due to split).I was thinking of doing a day pootlin around, maybe even a local-ish trail center, few loops.
Anyone else thinking of doing the same,I am guessing the trails centers will be nice and quiet.
PS I not a fan of chrimbo anyway usually on a beach in Goa,but skint!

I did a steady 60 or so mile ride last Christmas, including a quick stop at a mates house to say hi, and then some hill reps on the way back. Can easily see myself doing the same this year.

no, but having been in more or less the same situation as you a couple of years ago i did that and it was great! i say go for it, it's so much better for your mental and physical health than sitting at home alone for the day.

Sounds like a lovely way to spend the day to me. Go for it!

The best christmas I ever had was one where I left the house at 1am to drive my lotus on empty twisty roads to go and climb a munro in the dark and sit at the top and wait for the sun to rise, before walking back down and driving home on still empty roads and going to bed.

Wife was working and the kids hadn't even been planned at that point - we flew to australia the next day for a couple of months holiday.

I nearly had an xmas by myself last year...I managed to go on holiday instead though. I wasn't going to be too bothered about spending the day by myself, but everyone I knew said "you can't do that, that's terrible". It was them saying that, that actually made me go on holiday. I had a few people offer me to go round to theres but I wouldn't have felt comfortable in doing so. You're better having a day by yourself doing what you want and enjoying it, instead of going somewhere that will be shite just to be socialable. 🙂

I'm doing family stuff but it's going to be awkward and forced since my parents have recently announced they're splitting up. A day out on the bike sounds way better, would be great to do a massive ride with an xmas picnic at the top of an epic descent 🙂

I booked a trip to morroco today for 11 days...had a fairly pants year and despite the family's protests I'm off to learn how to surf....rattled the visa and can't wait!

after a recent injection of scrooge into my normally giddy as a child Christmas mentality, I can't decide whether to spend the day riding or fishing, both will be equally as relaxing and I'm guessing both will be equally as quiet.

due to a number of reasons all my family are in different parts of the country. i'm keeping this fact quiet from friends etc as a day off to do whatever is very rare for me in dec. if it's nice will get out on the bike at some point but nice food and booze will be involved at some point.

Even though I'm doing family dinner later in the day, I'm really looking forward to a long bike ride setting off first thing.

Spent many a Xmas in the past alpine climbing or up in Scotland on my own some of the best.

Hope you have a good one.

I shall be spending it in the equivalent of an old folks home. (The in laws). I shall be well fed and get nice presents but no doubt there will be a Midsomer trilogy that will need watching then sliding into a Poirot repeat. Dull, dull dull.

Yep, another one who's going to be enjoying quiet trails. 8)

Family need to realise that an Xmas dinner is not exclusively wimmins work so the blue-eyed boy will be sorting it out! Oh how I laughed. 🙂

Are trail centres likely to be open on Xmas Day?

if his cooking is anything like mine,Chips n gravy for you too.
i think trail centres carpark barriers will be down if they have them.nothing to stop you riding the trails though.

I'm working Xmas morning (no-one else wanted the shift, so did a deal with the boss. The pay from that one shift will pay for my Alps holiday 😆 ), should finish about 8am, so a quick snooze before lunch then a blast round Cwmcarn before going to the parents for the prezzies!!

Means I'll miss all the crap bits of xmas, just get the good stuff 😀

Christmas on your own is very refreshing. I did it a few years back and there is no pressure to do anything you don't want. Sometimes it is nice to put yourself first.
