My lawnmower has some surface rust on the edges and patches underneath. Some paint has flaked off as a result. What is the easiest treatment to prolong the life of the metal? The engine is fine and and been looked after so don't want the rust to spread.
Either grind it back n paint it.
Or oil it
Bilt Hamber Deox gel is amazing stuff, but it actually dissolves the rusty material leaving shiny metal so if it's particularly thin you might be better with a stabilizer.
I used aquasteel to treat the car- good stuff, it's a convertor/stabiliser but also functions much like a primer.
But if I had a rusty lawnmower, I'd just oil it probably, good enough. Or, well, I'd use lanoguard but only because I already have it, wouldn't buy it for this job.
I can confirm the Bilt Hamber stuff is brilliant but probably overkill for a lawnmower that never sees salt etc. If you can find other uses for it then get some, it's great for cars etc.
Aquasteel is great. I have some left over from working on this. A little goes a long way. It is basically the same chemicals as Bilt Hamber I think so choose either - both overkill for a lawnmower but you might end up buying a rusty classic where you can use up the rest.
Make sure you pour it into a cup and brush from the cup. If you start dipping a brush with rust in the bottle then the rust will fall in and the reaction will start inside the bottle instead of on the car.

I use ACF-50 on my motorbike with great results to prevent rust.
