Is it me, or do most reporters have a 'flexible' approach to measuring depth of snow?

Depends on your perception of whats an inch, to be honest I think most women presenters seem to not exagerate like the males one do.

it's tricky. 5" fell here, but now slumped to 3.5"

yes. a ruler tends to be a monarch or a despot, kind of thing

actually, a typical plastic rule can have up to about 1/4in empty plastic before the scale starts.

so actually your 8 inches were (potentially up to) 8 and a quarter inches

and saying it twice doesn't make it 16in!
